19' to 21' Bowriders or Sport Decks

I’ve been very happy with the two Sea Rays I’ve owned over the last 25 years- 1991 170, and a 2004 200 sport. 21 is a good size for that lake And uses you outline. Look at the SPX 21. personally I prefer IO ,despite the advantages of a modern 4 stroke ,solely for the a clean swim platform on the...

    Changing Gear Ratio...Prop Change Required

Yes try the 21” check wot rpms. You may over rev so back off the throttle when you get to 4600. going to steeper gearing will improve ( all other things being the same) holeshot and will limit top end, hence going up in pitch to compensate. Five years ago i swapped a 5.0 for the original 4.3 in...

    Hull stringer material

That weekender is much different in terms of construction than my ‘04 200 sport. Not the best photo of stringers as I was just getting done repose rings , but the stringers and floor are smooth and shiny just like the hull. I think this model and hull design was released in 04.

    Hull stringer material

True wood was main material used for stringers transom and deck material for many years, often nothing more than plywood tabbed in. Around the early 2000s manufacturers started to transition to more modern materials. I suspect driven partially by ways to reduce assembly labor. If you compare how...

    Hull stringer material

My 2004 Sea Ray does not have wood stringers I believe they are composite and ‘glued’ to the fiberglass hull look around the engine mounting points there will be 1” plugs in the side of the stringer for putting foam under the floor you can easily pull one out and see the stringer construction...

MC1 Gimbal with Alpha Gen 1

Alpha gen one will fit a mc1 transom assembly so that is a common maintenance swap out over the years. Im not sure if they swap put if you google mercruiser 32582 you’ll find some used steering pins. your best bet if you can find a rotten boat sitting in someone’s yard is to get a complete...

    Vortec or not?

O this won’t work . I’m assuming since you mention 4 bbl set up you are looking at swapping the intake and carb onto your 99 2 bbl engine? No the intake will not fit your later vortex heads, as outlined count the intake bolts.

Mercruiser 3.0 135hp. Crank and rods

sage advice. Keep it to 9.0 or 9.5 to 1 and you can live on 87 octane. You may be able to mill the dome off the aftermarket pistons. Your machinist would know the options

1994 Mercruiser 3.0 high idle off plane

What gasket was used between the intake and the carb. I ran into a sI I,at issue on my 1990 3.0. It had a single hole in the intake but yet had a two hole gasket below the carb. When doing a routine carb rebuild , the kit came with two gaskets a two hole and one with an oval hole that more...

1994 Mercruiser 3.0 high idle off plane

The Webber 4 bbl used a return spring as well. 24-897454 - Spring I bought one and installed when I upgraded to a Edelbrock 4 bbl on my 5.0, used that and the throttle bracket off the Webber equipped 5.7 and 4.3 s

Duoprop F7 is too big by 400+rpms

You may want to verify the tach is reading correct at 4200 rpm before you make decisions on prop pitch. I would think if you are only hitting 4200 rpm due to too much pitch it would be lugging the engine on hole shot.

Rebuilding or replacing Mercruiser 4.3 in 1996 caravelle 1950SE

More likely than $50 cost diff was how many engines a particular boat builder had in inventory . My ‘91 sea ray 170 had a 1990 3.0 with one of the last (by serial number ) alpha gen ones same happens when I’m came out with the cobra drive they held back sales until builders could sell their...

Rebuilding or replacing Mercruiser 4.3 in 1996 caravelle 1950SE

So it doesn’t sound like you know the engine is bad yet? Might just be fuel or carburation ? An engine with a cracked block will run just fine until the crankcase fills with cooling water . reason not to use the crank bolt is if the engine is locked up you can snap the bolt off Then u are f’ed...

Rebuilding or replacing Mercruiser 4.3 in 1996 caravelle 1950SE

I did just that in my sea ray 200. Bought it with a known cracked 4.3, but boat only had 37 hrs was in great shape otherwise. I bought a partial engine plus exhaust manifolds and elbows from a Michigan motors. A couple of things to consider my boat was sold with a 5.0 so I had 4” inches in front...

    New 205ss crownline-is 200 HP enough?

True it will be alright, but I have yet to own a boat with too much power. QB is right you can prop down for water sports, this is why I run a 4 blade, as generally it is too rough to bot WOT much anyways. does anyone know what the largest engine available in this boat is? Is The biggest 250 hp?
