    You need to do the compression test.----Checking the 3/8" gap has nothing to do with the sparkplugs.-----You use a device , bought or homemade to test spark !------Good luck with the motor.----Perhaps find a friend to help you.

    Did you make sure that the high speed jets ( orifice plugs ) are clean ?---They are found way inside the carburetor bowls.----Often over looked.

    It is not common to get rid of all those pieces.----I am going to look into getting rid of it on a 150 HP with 2 older 100 HP pumps,----Can't say how yet and not going to explain here how it is done for safety reasons.-----Your local dealer might help you.

    Nobody here can put hands on your motor.---Check head bolt torque.-----Have you adjusted low speed mixture screws ?----Information must be posted.-----Post the compression values.----Does spark jump a gap of 3/8" on all 4 leads.

    I went to a bearing supplier.-----Clearly stated that I wanted quality bearings.----Not a kit from the " hueflungdung " distributor.----No need to save $15 / $20 at all.

    Pull the head off now.-----The head can be removed with powerhead left in place.----The head is warped and needs to be resurfaced before new gasket is installed.---

    Remove cylinder head.----Inspect cylinder.----Lucky you if it is just a blown head gasket.-----Model # of your motor?

    Perhaps the motor is running on 3 of 4 cylinders.----Test compression and test for strong spark.

    Outboard top cylinder getting hot

    You will need a puller ( 3 bolts ) to take off the flywheel.----And a 12 point 5/16" thin wall socket for the rod bolts.
