    where did you get the aftermarket carb? if you got it from Amazon or ebay, it may be a problem. however your key switch needs replacing.

    nope. its not the coil. coils get warm to the touch if you leave the key on and not have the motor running. they get about 160F if you leave the key on.

    Stringer drives went out in 1985. A stringer in a 2001 boat is just a bunch of Frankenstein parts. Not worth buying unless they give you $2000 so you can pay disposal fees
