    There is an oil return line from bottom of engine to the top.-----Have you check reed valve plate and gaskets?

    Nothing wrong with a little extra oil for a hard working 2 stroke.-----You will get more hours out of it.

    Trouble shooting starts with a compression test.----Post your numbers.----Then check for spark on both leads.-----Check flywheel key.----Float in carburetor could have a crack and have fuel in it.----You did put a new water pump impeller in it when you bought it I hope.

    ??----Use a meter.----The + cable goes to the solenoid.----The - cable goes to the block.

    The pump is not self priming.-----It does not pump / move air very well.---- I would inspect impeller .

    If it was pumping oil with motor shut off it sounds like , and could only be the vent plugged on the oil tank.-----VRO pumps are NOT electric.----Vro pump operate with crankcase PRESSURE pulses when engine is turning.

    Adjust the rod on the side of the block so that carburetor opens a little later.----Remove slow speed mixture needle and post picture of the tip.-----In my opinion this should be an easy fix.

    Fact----When a shop works on a $100 motor for 3 hrs it adds up to a $500 invoice.------Owner will howl and call them various names.------When they work on a $50,000 boat for 3 hrs and show a $500 invoice the owner will say " thank you very much "-----But I agree for some folks an older motor...

    Friend-----Lock the wife in the trunk of the car for 15 minutes.------Lock the pup in the trunk for 15 minutes.-----When you open up the trunk you will know who is your friend !

    Your information is totally wrong !-----Inside the transom brackets was available in 1978 for 3 cylinder 70 HP.-----Later ( 1988 ) labelled as 60 HP at the propshaft.-----Lots of used ones are available depending on your location.

    Clearly stated in post #1 that VRO is not used.---Pulse limiter ( flow fuse ) for VRO has been removed as well.-----Running with a simple pump on this motor I assume.
