    You can guess about the carburetors all day long.-----Post the compression values.----Check for strong spark on all leads.----Get the motor in the normal running position and test run.-----Or put it on a boat and launch to get a better idea.----They run different with back pressure.

    Did you install the latest pump kit ?-----Does the tell tale hose fitting come off the side of the block or the top of the block ?

    See if there is a thermostat installed.

    It is NOT the pitot hole.----It should NOT be plugged.----Install a seal kit in the lower unit.

    Intake ports on the 7.5 HP ( COMET ) are smaller in diameter.

    Not a common item on 35 HP models.---Oddball item too.----But look into an after market unit.---Google ---cmc trim tilt----and see what options you have.

    Post #3 tells you what units are a direct fit.----Later 3 cylinder units to 1988 require linkage changes.----I am too far away to assist.

    The hydro-mechanical unit like yours ( 3 cylinder ) was used in 1973 / 1974 and part way through the 1975 model year.
