    Post the compression numbers.----Does spark jump a gap of 3/8" on a test device.----Not a blinking light or on a sparkplug.----Are carburetors confirmed clean ?----Water pump impeller replaced ??

    Stop revving this engine !!!----Soon it will come apart by itself.------Learn to do some trouble shooting.

    70hp 1988 Evinrude (sometimes) doesn’t start

    Well compression should be about 120 PSI or so.----Investigate that first.----Does spark jump a gap of 3/8" or more on a test device ?----Does fitting for tell tale hose come off the side of the block or the top ?-----Has water pump impeller been replaced about every 5 years or so ?

    If it got really hot wires may have melted.----Shorting the ignition.-----But I can not see or inspect your motor.

    It is an oil recirculation line.----You must replace it ASAP.-----And I certainly know that a 1978 Mercury is a 2 stroke !!

    The 62 model 5.5 HP uses the same bearings ( big end ) as the newer 65 model 6 HP.-----The 50 :1 mix was a board room decision !------The general public thinks that a 50:1 engine is built better.-----OMC was loosing sales to the better promoted Mercury line-up.

    These lower units are not ROBUST.------Use the best recommended oil !-----I did not know what oil looked like when it was put in.-----Very , very hard to judge oil condition by looking at a picture.

    Gas hose for 6hp evinrude

    A 3 prong fitting ?-----Does it have an air and fuel hose in one assembly ?----An older pressure tank can not be used on a 76 model with a fuel pump.----You need a single hose and correct fuel tank.

    The 2 phillips head screws should not be taken out.----They have nothing to do with changing the oil.

    Factory support for these old motors is incredible.-----Much better than for some 20 year old motors !!!!

    Running out of fuel is NOT AN ISSUE !!!-----There are no cautions in owners manuals or labels on gas tanks either.------The lack of knowledge on 2 stroke lubrication is incredible !
