    The main water intake is behind the propeller.------So put the boat in the water for testing.----Or in a deep bucket with water 6" above the water pump !----And check the thermostat as they are often stuck open.------Simple as that.

    Debris / junk in the shift piston bore would jam the piston.----The spring is only so strong to move the piston to get forward gear !

    Start with a compression test.-----Post your numbers.----Then see if each lead has spark that will jump a gap of 3/8" ( 1 cm ) on all leads.

    Can a 6hp impeller work on a 9.5 1967?

    Driveshaft is different diameter.--The 6 is 0.437" and 9.5 is 0.550" going from memory.------Nothing wrong with the 9.5 impeller / water pump set-up.----Contact ---evinrudeparts.ca-----for factory ( good ) parts.----I have put bad pump housings in a 4 jaw chuck on a lathe to return them to...

    How badly is it bent ?----Should be easy to change a good ( not bent ) propshaft.---Or have your local machine shop straighten it ?------Find one and ask how to change it
