    If I had to replace a VRO pump on one of those for myself I would fit 2 pumps.-----Use some off say a 1966 model 100 HP.----Simple pumps with filter / sediment bowl.

    In my opinion the VRO pump ( if equipped with that ) is very easy to inspect and repair.----Any other Pressure operated diaphragm pump is also easy to inspect and repair.----Have a go at it.

    If the lower unit was cracked from water freezing inside you might as well STOP.------Take lower unit apart or inspection.-----Might start looking for a used gearcase I say.

    The question !!---Put red lever inline with primer body valve --Does fuel come out of the little hoses, key pushed in and engine cranking , yes or no ?-----You are not helping yourself if you do not answer simple questions !-----Last chance.

    Yes that is the electric primer valve.------It opens when you push in the key.----When motor Is cranking fuel should come out of the 3 small hoses going into the carburetors.

    Giving it a little short of ether is no different than what the electric primer valve does.-----So are you pushing the key in during cranking to cold start this motor , yes or no ?-----And have you checked to see if the electric primer valve is working as designed , yes or no idea how it works ??

    Pull the flywheel and inspect the magneto.----The coil is likely cracked.----Clean and set the breaker points.-----Position the oil drain hole to be at the top ( motor laying down ) add oil till case is full.---Takes 2 ounces or so.

    Information like----" appears to be getting spark " ----Means nothing to me.-----So does spark jump a gap of 7/16" , yes or no ?----Are you pushing the key in WHILE cranking it over for cold starting ?----Is there fuel in the carburetors ?-----Checked for water in the fuel ?------Checked...

    Guessing and assumptions will not work.----Some simple inspection / trouble shooting will find what is wrong with your motor !!----And some folks are reluctant to answer questions about their motor.------Sorry ----I can not see , hear or feel your motor.----It usually takes no more than 15...

    Install new impellers now.----They need to be replaced about every 5 years or so on those motors.

    Shift rod is disconnected ?-----I have used a hydraulic puller and adapters to pull lower units off.

    Have your assistant slowly turn the flywheel while pushing the lower unit up.------It should slide together.

    A cylinder head gasket is cheap in the big picture.-----Just pull the head off and inspect cylinder walls.-----Beats jumping up and down around your motor guessing on the compression.

    When testing in a bucket you need water about 8" above the impeller.-----And all those exhaust bubbles do not help a pump that was not designed to pump air.----Put it together and test on the boat out on the lake.

    Check for water in the fuel.----Install new fuel filters ( 3 of them I think ) and test run.----Run with a timing light hooked up to see if you can spot a cylinder with ignition issues.
