    #1. Do nothing and use the old plywood strips. do not replace superior strength plywood with cut up 2x4's unless the 2x4's are white oak and you steam them to shape. Pine is not sufficient. if you really are worried, grab a bucket of gel and a brush and mop some on. however not needed.

    you turn the input shaft and count the rotations. or on the alpha, look at the bottom of the stock sticker (if its still there). in small print on the bottom is the gear ratio. however you need to verify your tach first. no need to perceverate on the cal. just verify RPM's at 3000 and 4500 RPM

    Fuel treatment question.....

    you should use the boat and burn off the fuel or siphon out the fuel thru the sender hole. it wont last more than 12 months. adding good fuel to the bad fuel just makes more bad fuel. I personally would not let the fuel that is in there go much longer.

    that is a circuit breaker, not a fuse and that is what powers the engine and gauges and everything powered off the key switch.

    Unless you paid money to balance the motor and to pay for engine fuel maping. It can't turn 6000 RPM My guess is your tach is set to 6 cylinder and you were turning 4800 RPM You will know when you bounce off the rev limiter
