50-70 years ago, if you wanted a boat, you had to build it.
also, if you plan on putting a motor on it, you want a design that has been approved by a naval architect like the Glen-L kits, etc.

local shop in Largo Florida offers reman power heads cheaper than I can buy parts for. includes new block halves, new crank, new pistons/rings and if you need, new rods. if they can get new parts, you should be able to
I would look for a 1992 or later bayliner with a rotten hull and a 3.0 / Alpha 1, gen 2 and get the boat for near free and swap in everything from pulley to prop into your boat vs dealing with a cracked block.
