Rebuilt Mercruiser 140/3.0 doesn’t have enough power to plane

Take the valve cover off, remove No 1 spark plug. Remove + side wire from coil. Bump the starter and watch the rocker arms. Watch for No. 1 cylinder intake valve to open. Keep going slowly and watch to the intake to close. Once closed keep going until the notch on the vibration damper comes...

2006 Q4: Strange dash light and won’t start

Won't start and new light. Don't know what the light is for, but if you can crank the motor but it won't start, check your kill switch (Man Overboard)

Where to start? Mercruiser Overheat / Thanks

When overheat starts, you always start with the impeller. Does "dealer required" mean you have a receipt that the dealer did replace the impeller? Get a 1 ft piece of clear hose, a hose clamp and male barbed fitting from the hardware store. Disconnect the hose coming from the drive at the...

Mercruiser 5.0 MPI Bravo 3 overheat 5 minutes after starting it up.

With a distribution valve you have the 3 point. There are also check balls at the bottom of each exhaust manifold. If they stick open, then water is reduced going to the motor. Get a IR temp gun and take readings at different places to see where things are hot

Do you have the 3 or 7 point drain system? Have you looked at the check valve?

    Delco est woes.

ok Merc reman and want to time it as a VP. I have the same VP doc and also don't know of a EST module which will provide 20* of advance, most are in the 10* to 12* To time the EST it gets 12V connected which puts it in base timing mode. The 12V shall not be connected to it with the motor OFF...

    Priming my 3.0 liter

^^Agree, no primer bulbs on IB or IO Change to electric fuel pump Similar issue happens with my 7.4 (mechanical pump) but it doesn't take a lot of cranking. After two 20 second cranks it fires. If your pump is weak, or the antisiphon valve is creating more of a restriction, could take longer

    Impeller housing overheating

Are you talking NPT or SAE? A 3/8 NPT means the ID of the hole is 3/8 which makes the threads .675 which is slightly larger then 1/2

    Engine alignment

Reason because you can snap the blot off and then you have more problems. That said, if you use a 3/8 short ratchet and plugs are out your not going to put enough torque on the bolt to snap it. Again, grab the belt and move the pulley, it should not be that hard to do

    Engine alignment

Opinion (other will vary), turn 90, if its still smooth your good to go. If the coupler is warped there will be a change, if not its good With plugs out, grab the belt and pully, and rotate by hand (CW or CCW doesn't matter). It should not be that hard

    Confused and frustrated

My guess is yours is open cool, so you would have raw water drawn in by the pump in the out drive leg. If it won't start so need to find out if its lack of fuel or spark that is missing Look on the motor for a serial number? It will be a number (0 o 1), a letter and 6 more numbers EXP 0W123456
