    VP 5.7GXi-E, Poor Hot Start

Check vacuum Looking at a scanner while running we could find out the position of the IAC. Could be vacuum is low and the IAC is almost full open to keep motor running.

Volvo Penta GSI crank no start not your typical crank no start

Need to scan for codes. The ECM looks to see if the distributor is firing before it pulses the injectors. My guess with a scanner is the problem is in the distributor

Volvo Penta GSI crank no start not your typical crank no start

One side of the injectors will have 12V when key is ON. The other side is grounded by the ECM to turn them ON/OFF. You can read the 12V but would need a NOID light to see them energize, meter isn't going to show MOB - Man Over Board switch

    Transom thickness

The transom thickness is between 2 and 2 1/4 inch where the transom assembly mounts That said the way your boat is designed where only the middle of the transom is that thick. I doubt the sides are the same. There probably not much more then 3/4. I would use aluminum or stainless plates to hold

2003 Volvo Penta 4.3 GL - Engine starts and runs for about a 15 seconds but won't stay running.

A fuse either blows or it doesn't, but there might be some corrosion. Will have a 15 to 20 amp fuse on the Red/Purple feeding the key switch. Use a voltmeter and check for power at the coil

    Engine alignment

Yes, if it goes easy in/out your good. Every coupler can have some ever so slight variations. The grease marks are used to advise how to adjust if its not easy. As before 2 finger easy

    Engine alignment

Guess when you asked in post 1, was "does this look good". Not knowing more then that we took it as the alignment was tight and how should it be adjusted. I should have asked the question first "how easy does the bar go in/out?" Sorry about that Alignment is more feel then looks. It might...

    Engine alignment

If it was easier before then now, I would think yes If its easier now then it was before, then no Keep in mind, as before, it might be just one side, not saying it is, just we're not there to feel what you are. After alignment the drive should slide right on without much pushing

2003 Volvo Penta 4.3 GL - Engine starts and runs for about a 15 seconds but won't stay running.

Being a GL it should have a Holley carb. Check power at the coil and see if its going to zero when motor shuts off. Is the choke closing on initial start? Can you keep it running by giving it more throttle?

    Volvo Penta 5.0 GI

Sounds like your mechanic is just a parts changer. Spends your money without doing any testing. Has the motor been scanned for codes?
