    Yes, that is what I was thinking If it cannot be adjusted to work smoothly, then it needs another sender or its a gauge issue

    Need to scan the motor for codes My thought is there is a sensor wire which is disconnected Gray to B-21 (Ground) Dark Blue/White to B-11 (Sense) Black/Pink to B-1 (5V)

    Recon I got nothing else to offer, wish I did. An ALT is a pretty simple device, apply 12V to S and Ex, rotate and so long as they are connected to the Bat being charged they work or they don't

    I also know that ALT from DB and have one sitting on the shelf (100 amp), its a piece of crud. Got a one wire and a connector to add Sense and Excite leads, and never did work correctly

    I'm thinking problem in the 10 pin engine connector or splice connection with the 50 amp breaker Red from starter post to 50 amp Red/Purple from 50 amp to 10 pin and ALT Purple from 10 pin to ALT Get an ohm meter and disconnect battery, then ring out the wires

    Don't know what boat/motor. Assuming I/O Should be no reason not to hose the boat down, so long as the water doesn't get high enough to reach the starter

    How long have you had the boat? There are fuses in several locations and there should never be smoking from hot wires unless the fuse was replaced with a higher amp type. Your ignition fuse should be no larger then 20 amp
