    1999 Mercruiser 5.0 L 8 Cylinder not engaging

the cost of the parts and the tools required to set up a drive far exceed the cost of a brand new drive. if you grenaded the drive, the bits and chunks go thru the whole drive making it a box of broken bits.

you will want to make some test drills. I bet the transom is wet, if not rotted same goes for the stringers regarding your transom shield, you need a new one. as far as manuals go, you will need the motor and drive manuals.. boat side manuals do not exist (with a very few exceptions)

    5.7 vortec oil pan gasket

a small amount just dabbed into the corners where the timing cover meets the block and where the rear main cap meets the block. think of the amount of tooth paste you put on your tooth brush. then use half that.

A ghost is stealing my anchors...

NEVER use a snap hook on an anchor. It will always come off the anchor there was even a video on an anchor site showing how a slight bit of slack allows the hook to drop a bit, then as you pull up, the snap comes undone.
