    Just 3 screws, 2 above the prop.----And one from top at the front.----Just install a new impeller.------That motor does not have a WARNING system or an overheat SHUTDOWN feature.-----It would run till it was too late and major damage is done.

    Lapping the tapers is a common procedure.----The flywheel key on most motors is there for setting the timing !-----The flywheel is driven by the locked tapers.-----It must be so!.----On some years of Johnson a 9.9 and 300 HP use the same flywheel key.

    What happens when you operate the manual fuel pump?----I also recommend that you install a new water pump impeller.-----Replace O-rings in fuel line connecters.

    I would start with a compression test .-----Post your numbers here.------If you want to go faster with a skier up , then you need a 100 HP motor !
