    Opinions? - Spraying Gelcoat Difficulty??

spraying gel is easy. no need for a dump gun. you do need a HVLP gun with a 2.0 or 2.3 nozzle. get the vapor brand, the correct one will be green. Amazon or northern tool (about half of buying the exact same gun from your local fiberglass supply house)...

    Engine Compatibility

depends on how creative you are. there have been two electric conversions so far. the problem is you only get about 25 miles of use. if you have a 165, you most likely have the in-line 6. you can swap over to a 4.3 V6 and save some weight.

    volvo penta 151b

the base motor doesnt know its in a boat. especially the heat exchanged motors. the only difference between a heat exchanged boat motor and the motor in a volvo car, one has a radiator, one has a heat exchanger. the pistons, rods, bearings, and most gaskets are the same. regarding...

Maintenance and flushing If you intend to boat in salt water, the motor is less of an issue than the drive.

Potential Purchase of a Rinker.. Thoughts?

the only issues I have are as follows: if the hull and foam are full of water, you wont know it until spring. 32 years is past a boats "prime" and "sell by" date. most boats are designed to last 15 years. any fiberglass boat that old should be considered a project. it may be a diamond in...

Buying a boat with a rebuilt sterndrive??

first, welcome aboard second, what are you worried about? most boats dont have hour meters. they generally do not get worn out in a recreational boat. they do get murdered. a 19' boat with a 4.3 would normally go 4000 hours with proper maintenance. the average boater puts on 20 hours a...

    1987 Glasstream 172 cutlass project.

before you go any further with your demolition, you will need to pull the drive and motor out of the hull and stabilize the hull with a cradle of sorts. you can build a cradle right on the trailer if you want.

    Transported a 4 stroke

fuel.... you may want fuel as well. in all seriousness, with a new to you 22 year old motor. you may want to also change the impeller, pressure test the leg and replace the gear oil.

    Crack in top coat

could be, however Micky's comment on hull flex/twist is more like it. most boats will crack where the gunwales meet the transom.

    losing lower unit oil

first, drain oil and pressure check the gear case. it could be the 4 screws holding in the bearing carrier could be the o-rings on the bearing carrier it could be a seal it could be a crack

    Crack in top coat

gel coat cracks are common. especially on many newer styled boats with lots of compartments. if the boat is about 15 years of age it will really start showing cracks. in the hull restoration forum stickies is a guide on repairing gel cracks.

Deck repair looks like might need new stringers and any other advice.

use an engine hoist to pull the motor. you should be able to do it without much effort with the 3.0

    Stringer repair

make sure to neutralize the vinegar. the #088 heads are really nothing special. they are the generic GM rectangular port heads. I would do a bowl job and port the intakes a bit as well as gasket match the exhaust.

    Removing corrosion from aluminum Gimbal

you will need to chemically clean that with ozalic acid, then neutralize. then bead blast the parts, prime and paint. I recommend a good zinc chromate primer

Mercruiser 3.0 reliability and overall maintenance?

first, welcome aboard second, any used boat is only as good as the maintenance it recieved the 3.0 is the entry level motor. it wont do 75kph unless your towing it. WOT speed in a light hull may be in the 65kph range. cruise would be in the 45-50kph range. the A1G2 outdrive is good for up...

    Ouachita Tri-hull Bass Boat Restoration

look at the forum on a computer (much easier to navigate than on a phone). look at the top of every forum are threads that are permenantly stuck and have a what looks like a little post-it note preceeding them. these are the stickies. this forum has four. the last sticky being this one...
