Installing Water Heater w/ closed loop 8.1 engine?

You should be able to tap into the recirculating pump on the engine to heat the domestic water from the engine. Additionally, You'll be able to run from shore power. You will need fittings and hoses to tap into the recirculating pump. Also a good idea to put in a couple of shut-off valves

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Transom is done for fiberglassing. I got up early and did the final 2 layers of glass 1808 & 1708 . . . The transom is just under 2" thick with some variation (+/- 0.05"). . . I need to make the engine mounting area flat, as it is not flat enough. The plan is to use the pieces of 1" Coosa...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Happy Monday . . . I got my VE fairing compound (LBI Composites #940), good for below the waterline applications. My goal is to finish off the extension bracket this week and begin working on the boat. There are a few more layers of glass to put on the transom (1708, 1808, 1708), then it...

    Support for new floor

At one point the foam was closed cell, but over time, it can become saturated leading folks to think it is open cell. It looks like there is only room for 1 stringer, and I agree with @racerone that the foam was serving as some structural rigidity. If you wanted to 'beef-up' the structure...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

I picked up a couple of gallons of Vinyl Ester fairing compound on the way to CT . . . Feels pretty light. I might have gotten a 5 gallon pail, but I hoping what I got will do. Ondarvr told me that if I go with VE fairing, then I can gelcoat. If I went with epoxy fairing, then it would...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Speaking of fiberglass cloth and such . . . I did a cross-check of my fiberglass usage vs how much Coosa board used to build the extension bracket (probably should have done this day 1  ) 6pcs x 48"x96" x 2 sides x 80% utilization = 44,236 sq. in. of Coosa to cover with fiberglass...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

This question . . . ? 1708 according to AI . . . 1708 fiberglass is a high-performance reinforcement fabric consisting of a 17 oz per sq yd biaxial fabric stitched to a 3/4 oz per sq ft (approx. 8 oz/sq yd) Chopped Strand Mat (CSM) backing. The total weight is roughly 25 oz per sq yd. . . ...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Yes, I'll probably combine a few methods 'a La' drywall smoothing. Often when doing stuff that is non-textbook, I see what is working and adjust accordingly. In other news . . . the 'ransom note' on my 1708 shipment (or lack thereof) has been posted on the delivery status "Your package is...

The bolts stay where they are. The engine gets moved up to another set of holes. That’s how engine mounts work.

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

I got the 5 gallon pail of VE resin, but the delivery person must be holding my 1708 cloth hostage or something. Awaiting a ransom letter. . . Meanwhile . . . I have taken a look at the transom. Flatness, height, bolt positions, etc. . . Flatness: I am thinking that I could use the cut-out...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

OK, my fiberglass estimates have been way low and I am heading out to grab another pail of resin and another roll of 1708 should arrive today. I took a look at what I've used and it is adding up (resin vs. cloth), but it seems that making things thick really uses up the materials, since each...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

I believe the I/O spec is thickness and how 'parallel' the inside & outside surface need to be. I'm trying to find what outboard motors need, but I would imagine it mainly applies to the outside surface.

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

In search of flatness. . . . OK, the transom as it is now is not very flat. . . . Most likely from lamination overlaps, etc. I am not sure fairing compound (I have a source for VE fairing compound), is the right thing for the mounting area of the outboard. . . but maybe it is. 'Plan...
