    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

1 Splashwell formed I had a remnant of 1708, so I was able to form a splash well after the base pieces had set up. This is the starboard side. . . . I'll need to get some more 1708 to form the other one, but for now this worked ! My plan is to beef it up with 4 layers of biaxial. . . Imma...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Progress update . . . I got another layer of 1808 on the transom from the inside 'up&over' to the outside and around underneath to the 'bottom plate' The transom is getting fat, as it should . . . . . Another 0.3" to go . . . Now I'm prepping for the splash wells. This will be some...

My involvement in the engines was writing the check. :ROFLMAO:

no, only non-serious inquiries . . . I have not advertised them in the past 2 months, so as to focus on the primary task.

You are just going to have to wait until it is done.

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

The engines are in . . . I went over to the re-power shop today to take a look at the engines. . . . Now to finish things off and get the boat over there for mounting and rigging. (probably will be around May 1st)

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

This is for @redneck joe . . . The extension bracket 'slides' under the swim deck to where the line is shown . . . So, there will be some 'walking/stepping' area beyond the swim deck when the engines are in a down position. . . I glassed the stiffeners so if a fatty steps on the edge it...

    Has both . . . angled transom and swim deck. No . . .

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

I've been meaning to add these stiffeners to the portion of the top plate that will extend out beyond the swim deck. I finally got them done. . . Also ground out a dry spot on the starboard side panel and re-glassed it. . . One more layer of glass on the transom, then I'll make the splash wells.

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Odds and ends today . . . Fixed some dry areas on the starboard side panel Added the 5th layer of tabbing to the engine stringer/transom joint Added stiffeners to the top plate 'wings' Tomorrow will be transom finishing day . . . Right now I am splitting time between the extension bracket...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

I don't know how this happened, but for some reason, I have no 1708 cloth left, and about 15 yds of 1808 . . .:cautious: I thought I was using up 1808 like a bad boy . . . but maybe not. I'll just use the 1808 on a 45˚ angle and call it good. :p

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Splashwells . . . A unique aspect of the design is that there are stringers directly in line where the engines will mount, as well as stringers to either side. Installing the splashwells seems to be a bit of a challenge given that here will be little/no access to the underside of the wells...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

OK . . . thanks for the comments. I'm more concerned about the weep hole (sleeve) that will be between the 2 pieces (hull & extension). I believe surrounding it in 5200, as mentioned may do the trick for longevity. As for the garboard itself . . . I could go either way, but if on the...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Garboard Drain ??? . . My boat does not have a garboard drain . . . Must be a 21st century thing . . . During the off-season, keeping the bilge empty is a PITA. Adding the hull extension will only make matters worse. So, I've been thinking about drilling a hole from the original...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

While I had the extension bracket outside, I did a 'dry run' of installing it to the boat. A few tweaks are needed, based on this trial run. , Right now I have a single 4x4 along the keel pad to guide the E-B in place. I'll need something more like a cradle so it will have guides on either...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

@redneck joe , @Pmt133 . . . Just to be clear, the boat is a 2016 model . . . The 328/338 series was introduced in 2014 as a twin engine sterndrive bowrider with overnight capabilities (328 model). It was an extension of the Azure Boat product line, which Cruisers Yacht acquired in 2011...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Yes, the N.A. thought that I was "pretty much there" with my design and details. He said that he usually gets hand sketches to work with. Both of us being engineers, we spoke the same 'language', so the conversations went well. The N.A. did a hydrostatic analysis using some specialized...
