    Fogging Oil Substitute

Could a guy just say, dump some trans fluid or the like down the carb? My 7th winterization's coming up and I've only done this once (several years ago), with StaBil aerosol, and then I didn't take the plugs out; so I'm not real worried about it, but thought I might make a minimal effort...

    Automotive Diagnostic Tool

Cool... Looking at the list of what that does made me think of the MPG display under the speedometer of the '02 Lexus I recently got for my 3rd to youngest (in other posts here). That particular item is distracting to me and essentially useless. It never says anything close to "19" when I...

    Automotive Diagnostic Tool

I've considered just taking it to the shop; don't have one, but have one recommended to me that I haven't tried out yet. Main reason for that would be diagnosis of a noise it's been doing off an on that I suspect, but don't know to be the timing belt tensioner (that I already replaced, but...

Thanks. Will look into it further, and try to (eventually) post what I did/found.

    Automotive Diagnostic Tool

Any recommendations on what to get? I've got a cheap code reader, but I might like something that'd do more (like one you could drive with it hooked up?). My newest car at the moment is an '05 (Acura, 178k). That's the one that made me think of this; it's got some mild stumbling, mainly...

    4.3L horsepower

Don't know what an '04 has, but my '86/88 Cobra 2bbl's supposed to have about 175HP. The stock prop (spec, at least) is a 14 1/2 x 19 3-blade, and it works great on my 19.5' boat.

    Another Winterization Thread!

4.3L OMC Cobra. Last couple of times I've poured (then forced) the pink stuff down the hose that comes from the back until some comes out the open drains in the outdrive. Reason is that the little screw in the bottom of the PS cooler is Ok to get out, but rather a pain to get back in and the...

    Mercruiser 4.3 Prop Question

Might want to clarify. If I did that the nose'd be pointing at the sky, lol. I must not be understanding. I feed it in gradually until I get just a little bounce and then maybe back off a bit if it seems like it's going to worsen. Throttling back, obviously requires trimming back down some.

    Mercruiser 4.3 Prop Question

Maybe a dumb question, but are you trimming for the speed? That'll get you a few knots. 88 OMC Cobra, 4.3L. 14 1/2 x 19, 3-blade: 45mph all out, at about 4,500rpm. 2bbl carb. Great (hole-shot?) also, btw.

Quite literally, in this case, lol.

    Toyota/Lexus Timing Belt Change Thoughts

NEW alternator from NAPA seems to have fixed the electrical problem(!). It read over 14V on initial check, as I would expect. The connector snapped in better than it did on the (chain store...) reman replacement I tried first. That one tested good when I took it back to them, but I got my $...

    Toyota/Lexus Timing Belt Change Thoughts

Yeah I saw the VVT-i and thought, oops, but that's the inline according to that site; this one's a V6 (but says VVT-i on the engine cover). Saw another place or two that agreed with, it's clearance.

    Toyota/Lexus Timing Belt Change Thoughts

Info. above says it's non-interference... This too: https://carbuyingsupport.com/list-of-interference-engines/ (I didn't even know about that before posting here) At any rate... It's down at the moment with an alternator issue? Hadn't had the car 2wks and had to replace it (with a chain...

    Toyota/Lexus Timing Belt Change Thoughts

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't mind having some records, but for most stuff, it sort of is what it is, as long as I know the drivetrain's original and all that. It's a 2-owner car (sisters); but I'm going by word of mouth there, and the feeling I got about the whole thing. A little risky, yes...

    Toyota/Lexus Timing Belt Change Thoughts

Well, you oversimplified that a bit. As I said, I looked it over pretty thoroughly. And it ran and drove great. Have you looked at cars in the $3-4000 price range lately (including what people want for ones with 200+ or even 300k miles or more [it's crazy])? 153k miles is not a lot for...

    Toyota/Lexus Timing Belt Change Thoughts

That sounds like good news... I'm not worried about a tow bill if it came to that. 60k is what I remember from years ago, but I've not had one personally, until my Acura, that had the belt. I think something was said when we bought it, about my son's '00 Maxima 3.0L too, that it wasn't a...

    Toyota/Lexus Timing Belt Change Thoughts

Just picked up an '02 Lexus with a 3.0L, 153k miles for one of my kids, and no idea when/if the timing belt was done last. I checked it over pretty thoroughly, but forgot to ask about maintenance records when I picked it up. I texted the PO and she said something about (not that long ago)...
