Forum display issue? Is it just me?

So last night, and now tonight, it seems some posts (in the Johnson/evinrude engine section anyway) aren't displaying correctly in the main list. What I mean, is that a topic, stats, and last posted will be at the top of the list, but stats are wrong, last post might say user A, at 9pm...

    throttle and rpm setting

Hey there!! I have a 71 50 hp too.. New to me last August, so I'm still learning about mine too.. Yeah.. You should be able to loosen the clamps, get both carbs closed, tighten it, Just be sure that when you push on the roller, BOTH throttle plates start opening at the same time.. Not sure...

    71 Johnson 50 hp

Well, Time for another update... lol... So I Finally had a little time to go out today and start checking the wiring again.. Decided to start by checking resistance of all the wires from start to finish. With the battery disconnected, I started checking from positive batt cable, (end that...

1972 johnson 125, no start this season

Was doing some research and examining wiring diagram for my engine with similar issues. Certainly not trying to step on any toes here whatsoever. I am still relatively new, but wanted to throw this out there.. First, you say that you get 12V when the key is turned.. Do you mean turned to...

71 Johnson 50 hp Initial Prop?

jimmbo So that tip isn't rake cupping? LOL!!!! So I checked as you stated, and I found that where the blue lines are, I felt no ridge/flip etc.. The red lines indicate where I felt some kind of a raise.. Very subtle, so not sure it it's because it's damaged, or because it's cupped.. This is my...

71 Johnson 50 hp Initial Prop?

I don't think the prop on it now is cupped, but.. Here's a pic of it. Maybe I'm wrong? LOL It's pretty nicked and dinged, and you can see quite a bend in the top blade in the pic..

Inexpensive 2 Cyl. Tachometer review (On-Going)

One thing I do like, as simple as it is, is that it came with the little log book: First page you can write in the make, model, year and any notes.. Then, log entries.. Headings are: Hour Reading, Date, Service Performed. I was thinking of making a little service log for myself (Easy enough...

Inexpensive 2 Cyl. Tachometer review (On-Going)

Now, this Hardline model # HR-8061-2 Tach/Hour meter WILL NOT work on an engine with more than 2 Cylinders. Pretty sure I read they have others that will work with over 2 Cylinders if you're interested when this is over.. LOL Anyway, Here's everything that came in the package with it: The...

Inexpensive 2 Cyl. Tachometer review (On-Going)

Hey All! I've seen many posts from people saying they don't have a tach to check WOT range. For timing purposes, Prop testing etc... Well, I don't either... So... I have a 1971 Johnson 50 HP Hydro-Electric. It was non running when I got it. I've since fixed it up so it runs, and spent an...

    1993 60hp Johnson/Tracker no spark

If I look for the power pack online for a 93 Johnson 60hp, I get this: If you have something like that on your engine, that's your power pack. Maybe post your exact model number? That might help the pro's here. I'm pretty new to outboards, but IF that's the powerpack, I don't see how to...

    Choosing a Tow Vehicle (Newbie)

A little background. I have a new to me 1967 Cruisers Inc 1532 Camero Tri-hull (15' 1" LOA) with a 71' Johnson 50 HP on it. I bought the boat in August last year. It was a good choice for me as a first time boat owner to get to know boating and the maintenance and care needed. And it was cheap...

1971 Johnson electric shift 50 no cooling water

RIGHT!!! Got so caught up with compression tests I totally forgot about that.. Been a long time since I've dealt with that... lol Based on the bore, stroke and displacement specs from the manual, ballpark figure would be somewhere in the neighborhood of 9.2:1... This doesn't...

71 Johnson 50 hp Initial Prop?

Hey folks! In August 2016, I bought my first boat. I've gone through it (with help from the other forum topics here) and so far so good! Took it out last Sunday for it's first splash. One big issue I had, was vibration. At about 1/4 to 1/2 throttle, there was a pretty good vibration, so I...

    Flywheel Woodruff Key Curiosity Question....

I've recently read posts about folks replacing flywheel keys, and I've replaced mine as well. Each and every time, I've seen that you should NEVER use hardware store type keys as they won't hold up.. To be CLEAR... I agree wholeheartedly that original factory parts should be used. I use only...

    71 Johnson 50 hp

Hey folks.. I've had great help here so far, so I started this thread with a general title, so I can keep coming to this one thread for any issues on my engine instead of creating several threads.. With that, I had my maiden voyage today! lol... Put up pics and a summary in the tri-hull...

Official Business of the 3V Club ( aka tri hull club )

Evening All! Update to the maiden voyage today! Not ALL success, but overall successful!! She started right up, Did the final idle mixture and rpm adjustments on the lake, puttered around a bit... That went well... Then started advancing throttle.. Figured I'd slowly go through the range...

    Johnson 35E79A needs rewired

I'm no expert, but this is the diagram I have for that engine. It only seems to show the purple/white as 16ga, and a red as 16ga. The other wires aren't showing the gauge, but I'd guess 16ga would do it. (except for the battery cables as 6ga as hardwater fisherman noted.) And like...

    easy questions 1971 Johnson 50

OH.. And in the pic you posted, I see 2 yellow wire nuts on the wires from your main harness plug. As far as that goes, I believe that's a big no-no with outboards... I'd replace those wire nuts with proper splices somehow... JMHO..

another wont start thread '83 evinrude 50hp

Here's the entire diagram I'm going off of. The coils are labeled #1 and #2, meaning Cylinder #1 and Cylinder #2. Cylinder #1 I'm told is always the top cylinder. Dang I hope it's that simple for you!

Because further up on that diagram, the lines are labeled as to which color each line is.: So follow the left line (orange & blue) and it becomes the top line going through the plug. now follow it right through the plug to the #1 coil..
