    Theft-proofing stainless props

On a VP Duo-prop. At $1000 for the pair, there must be SOME type of security device (chain-mail bag w/lock?) to keep them on the boat if it's in a hotel parking lot or out in front of the house overnight. Any ideas, or am I smokin crack?

Bennett Trim tabs..where does x-ducer go?

I'm looking at hydraulic trim tabs. Bennett recommends 24 x 9 as the primary choice, with 18 x 12 as a secondary. With either choice it looks like my speedo pickup and transducer need to move. Where? The 24's would fit, but I can't see how I could get a good mounting location for the transducer...

    Volvo DP-SM Props Yow $$$

In searching for the Volvo tool to get my props off in order to drain the fluid... I ended up seeing how much a pair of Stainless F5 props would cost to replace....YOW. Over a Grand for the pair. Like I wasn't paranoid about hitting bottom before...this boat has almost 3' draft with the drive...

    Special tool for VP Duo-Prop?

I've read that I need a special tool to remove the props (the front one) from my 2001 DPS outdrive, in order to get to the lube drain plug. Where can I get one?? I already searched the iboats store, when I was ordering a pair of trailering clips, and found nada:confused: Only one I found just...

    Poll: Keel Guard

New to me boat has some gel-coat damage where someone beached in the wrong spot and landed up on a rock it looks like. Can see mesh about .5 inch wide at apex of keel...not damaged fiberglass, just missing gel-coat...are stick-on keel guards worthwhile or is it just better to grind, patch and...

Fuel (or other) additives for used boat?

New to me, that is. The story so far: 2001 Doral 230BR, with a Volvo-Penta 5.7 GSi with duo-prop outdrive (how do I know EXACTLY which duo-prop drive I have?). 280 HP TBI on a 24' bow rider. 179 hours on the gauge. 70 gallon fuel tank. I have been told by PO that all fluids and impeller were...

After three months of CL pain..

I finally bought my boat today. Well $500 worth, until Tuesday when we meet at my bank, go for a test ride and close the deal. Counter-signed bill of sale / contract in place with terms for down payment and final payment upon good test drive. (learned my lessons...) 2001 Doral 230BR VP 5.7 GSi...

2001 Doral 230 BR help please

Hello all, I'm going to look at a 2001 230BR w 5.7 Volvo, fuel injected. 160ish hours. The owner lists the HP at 310...that seems high for a 2001 5.7? The guy bought it last year from a dealer, and says his kids just don't like going out as much as he thought. (..probably means he's a...

    4.3 Mercruiser blow up easy?

I've been following CL for about 3 months now. I keep noticing something: whenever I see a boat that advertises "new motor, only 10 hours!" it always seems to be a Merc 4.3 that had been replaced. Almost all the boats are between 2000 and 2005. Have not seen any 5.0 or 5.7 with similar...

Need Wakeboard for 2 very different Kids

I'm getting ready to get a new boat, and I know the kids will want to wakeboard. I'll start them out on a cheap kneeboard, just to get them used to hanging on to a handle. I have an 8y/o son, who's always been at the 97th % of height/weight - Currently tipping the scales at a lean 80 pounds...

    A dumb question

I'm new to "new" VP and Merc I/O's...my last boat was a 85 Glastron with 3.8 GM power and an OMC outdrive. The kind that jacked up the entire motor to set the trim. Lots of lovely things would happen if you hit the tilt button with the motor running, or if you tilted it up with the trim set too...
