Bravo U joint Bellows Do Over?

Installed new U joint bellows on Friday, having removed the helmet, and now have found its not completely seated around 100% of the circumference. Looks to be completely seated on 85-90% of the circumference. Whats my next move? Adding the bonding cement to ID and OD of offset area and...

Bravo Installation Kit ( ring gaskets)

Hi Bondo; Thanks. Can you comment on if the orange coating normally peels off the orange ring gaskets during install (rolling em down the shaft) revealing they are black underneath? Or is that orange coating needed to stay in tact? Mine peeled off.

Bravo Installation Kit ( ring gaskets)

Thanks. 5 out 6 aint bad :) That one you labelled extra also fits on my bravo 3 shaft. You were right the little black one is the gear oil line on the helmet. I was focused on the outdrive and that is how i got confused. What you all use to hold/glue these in place for install? Just...

Bravo Installation Kit ( ring gaskets)

It is a OEM Mercury Precision Parts Kit (made in China and Italy) labelled Bravo I,II, III. I doubt its a combo unless Mercury chose to delete Alpha from description. With tpenfields advice above found it does go on the gear oil line, on the helmet/bellhousing side. I was fixated on the...

Bravo Installation Kit ( ring gaskets)

Two questions. 1) Where does the little black ring gasket go? 2) Is the orange coating on the larger ring gaskets supposed to be temporary/sacrificial? I ask because the orange coating fell off as I installed them onto to shaft.

Should new gimble bearging gimbal? allow shaft to roll, pitch and yaw?

I installed gimble with the long alignment bar and the install ring/tool. Then inserting just tip of the long bar into inner race so as not to reach the grease protection barrier ring, i am pushing left, right, up and down and wiggling the trailer holding a 4000 lb boat, but gimble isnt...

What is the all time record for lower shift cable life?

Asking for a friend (with Bravo 3 in freshwater only). My friend has at least 10 yrs on his. The shift cable looks fine on both ends. What are primary modes of lower shift cable failure? My guess is metal fatigue right near the "buttonhead" that connects to outdrive and therefore is a...

Should new gimble bearging gimbal? allow shaft to roll, pitch and yaw?

I am installing new OEM greaseless gimbal 30-879194A02 on my 97 Bravo 3 and along the way found this youtube video explaining why the gimble bearing is a gimbal. In the video it is not a flat static 2D type inner race. The inner race is moving in X,Y and Z axis. As others had commented on...

1997 7.4L MPI IAC valve location and removal

Thanks, this is a big help. Which item number is the fuel pressure regulator or is that on another page? What about the MAP and MAT, mine are likely original 1997s? Or if they are not broken dont "fix" those?

1997 7.4L MPI IAC valve location and removal

Can anyone confirm location and procedure for getting to IAC valve. The manual I have says remove flame arrestor, disconnect throttle linkage, use a stud driver to remove throttle body, then rotate throttle body 90 deg to get to IAC on back of throttle body. Is it not possible to unclip the...

Can I grease gimball zerc while boat is in the lake

To answer my own question, yes one can grease a zerc that is underwater. I did it, didnt help much, maybe a scooch, as predicted, but didnt hurt either. Still not sure I got any grease in the coupler on drive shaft using new 90 flex tip. This zerc is begging for a relocation or extension to...

Can I grease gimball zerc while boat is in the lake

Definitely could be U joints too, so this is one last attempt before borrowing a buddies truck, going back to the marina and starting all over.

Can I grease gimball zerc while boat is in the lake

Understood, I am presuming no water intrusion based on bellows inspecation and lack of water in boat nor mis alignment and do not know if and how much additional grease pumps are needed each year. Is it a closed system that needs zero or does it need ten and I only gave it 2 or 3 because I read...

Can I grease gimball zerc while boat is in the lake

I know this isnt the right way, but can I attach the grease gun nozzle (pumped full of grease) to the zerc on my Bravo 3 outdrive, and add additional grease to the gimball. I thought i gave it a couple pumps in the fall winterization, but want to see if more grease will quiet down a chuffing...

Dry Chuffing Noise 1st Day of Season 1997 7.4LX MPI

Hi All, thanks in advance for your guidance. So put the boat in today at the lake marina in NY and heard this chuffing noise immediately, which was surprising because I ran the boat twice on muffs in the driveway ( 20 seconds each time) and did not hear it. The only thing i touched this...

    Merc 3.0 Sterndrive Winterizing Question

No, I dont think corrosion is happening on my engine after its been run in a freshwater lake, drained empty and sitting dry in the cold. I have put this cheap alcohol based anti freeze in and will not drain it so it doesnt affect any rubber and can mix with any little pockets of water that...
