    The whine itself doesn’t bother me that much, after all it’s been like this for the past two seasons (~60 engine hours, boating season is short in Norway). It’s more not knowing if failure is imminent, so maybe keeping an aftermarket pump as a spare is worth it for the peace of mind.

    I hear it clearly at idle and slower speeds, maybe up to 2000-2500rpm. After that I don’t hear it, but at that point wind noise and engine noise may drown out the whine.

    I’ve replaced the o-ring again, poked around the drain hole before reinserting the plug. Will leave it overnight and see if it holds.

    I will drain the lower unit and check the drain hole for debris and replace the o-ring with a 2mm cross section if if looks good.

    Yes, the kit I bought came with a T-fitting, but connecting to the PS cooler is easier and less of a modification in my opinion.

    Sorry to hear about your engine. I measured the thickness of the o-ring at 1.6mm (w) and the ID at 7.1mm (pardon my metric). The drain screw diameter is 8.11mm in the groove.
