    I pulled the cylinder head off,the bolts around the lower cylinder were definitely not torqued to spec's,and the bottom cylinder part of the head has gotten hot in the past,paint is all gone , looked both cylinders over ,they seem to be in decent shape,new head gasket on order, fingers crossed

    I just changed the impeller the bearing housing gasket and a new thermostat within the last 2 days, and it's never been in saltwater as far as I know so I'm kind of stumped on this one, it pumps water fine it just gets very hot

    Well I'm stumped,new thermostat,it still run very hot ,to hot to touch,it steams out of the water tube exhaust,and also stumbles, tried carb adjustments both ways doesn't seem to affect it, only thing I haven't done is use a rebuild kit for the carburetor,it's been cleaned throughout tho

    Your welcome,look around the bottom of the crankshaft, around the armature plate mounting fixture,see if it's wet or oily looking

    Also could be a blow upper crankcase seal,if they leak you'll have oily dark residue underneath the flywheel,and on the armature plate

    My 18 doesn't have a thermostat, from what I can tell it's OEM from 1969 on the 9.5 ,it's just something new I've never dealt with before

    It's pumping water good enough,it just seems warmer than I think it should be, compared to my 60 18hp Evinrude,gonna test the stat and see if it opens

    I don't think it's ever been used in salt water,but say 100% just ogt it two weeks ago,and yes that's what I'm going to start off with,is a new thermostat, my 60 18hp runs cool,can lay my hand on the power head it's nice and cool ,this 9.5 was considerably warmer,need to get a non contact...

    I've considered buying on the those,it ran for around 3-5 minutes,it was way warmer than my 18hp ever got ,don't think the thermostat had ever been replaced, original OEM,had a hell of a time getting it out

    Only marks I see is the ones where the slot is for the rope nothing else anywhere,one mark on opposing sides
