    When To Dewinterize

I'm sure I'm not the only one just itching to get back out on the water. Especially this season. We had a false spring come through bringing very abnormally high temps, even at night. I almost got cocky and fired ol EZ Duz It up but I reigned myself back in and held off. I did get a bunch of...

    Fuel Capacity

I have a 1976 Apollo Tri Star 17' with the Merc 165hp L6. Just got it late last summer. I've never run it empty and filled it up. My guess is it holds 20 gals but just curious if anybody with a similar boat knows what the fuel cap is. Thanks.

    Perfect Prop

I read a lot of recommendations with guys just grinding them down a bit. Worked out great. No difference in steering, trim or ride quality. Just keep your grinding even. Replacement would be good for a guy who's not comfortable with an angle grinder.

    Is it worth it?

Thank you all for your input. I think I'll keep the conversion at the top of my to do list for next spring. Sounds like money well spent, especially since I have a couple mechanic buddies who are willing to help. Also going to have the carb gone through. I'm pretty good with mechanical...

    Is it worth it?

Greeting fellow boat lovers! I have a 1976 Apollo Tri Star 17' open bow with that good old Mercruiser 165, GM 250 cu in straight six. Just going through my needs and wants list for next year and at the top of that list is electronic ignition. Just curious what y'all think of it and if it's worth...

    Bimini Top end cap replacement

Drilled out the dimples and it came out. Took a little more work with vice grips and tapping with a small hammer but it popped out.

    Bimini Top end cap replacement

Ya I got it to twist but it won't pull out. Even tried tapping the vice grips with a small hammer to no avail. Like I said I didn't wanna get too rough with it without getting some opinions from folks who actually know what they're doing. I'm one of those guys who actually knows when to stop and...

    Bimini Top end cap replacement

That's what I was thinking but I didn't want to just do it willy-nilly. Thanks for the advice!!

    Bimini Top end cap replacement

Can anybody tell me how to get the hinge end cap out for replacement? There's no set screw but I can't get this thing out. I don't want to get too rough with it but I can't for the life of me get this end cap put for replacement.

Does anybody know where I can find the service and repair manual for the GM 250 cu in (4.1L)? Thanks.

New 15x17 pitch prop on Merc 165 L6

Fairly variable. Primarily we use it for fishing but we do occasionally tow friends and kids on a tube. This prop really holds the engine rpm well in tight turns with very little need to increase throttle. For how we use the boat this prop is a perfect middle ground. I'm very impressed by how...

New 15x17 pitch prop on Merc 165 L6

Went with a Rubex prop. Brand new with the hub kit it was $180 bought locally from a local small business, which I try to do as much as possible. The guys at Precision Propeller here in Spokane, WA really know their stuff. Told em what I had, what I wanted performance wise and they recommended...

New 15x17 pitch prop on Merc 165 L6

Just put a new 15x17 pitch prop on my 1976 Apollo Tri Star with the GM 250 cu in (4.1L) straight six. Man this prop is just nuts on. WOT at 4500 rpm and 40 mph. Cruises real nice at 3000-3500 rpm at 25-30 mph. Good hole shot and plains right out, even leaving the outdrive in the trimmed...

    Blower cover removal

I got it. Took a flat head screwdriver, a rubber mallet and tapped the screwdriver into the little indent on the back of the cover and slowly worked it up. It doesn't exactly just pop right off.

    Blower cover removal

I can't for the life of me figure out how to get this cover off so I can reattach the blower motor housing. The screws worked themselves loose and the blower motor fell off. I need the cover off to access the screw.

1976 Apollo Tri Star fuse box location

I've looked for in line fuses, checked every inch of the wires ran from the battery to the dash, everything I can think of. I'm rather mechanical and have always worked on my own stuff, at least til we got newer vehicles. I have a pretty good grasp on mechanical and electrical trouble shooting...

1976 Apollo Tri Star fuse box location

I've looked literally in every nook and cranny. Pulled the seats up front and looked back in there, under the dash, back by the battery.....everywhere.
