Woke up this morning with a tree on the boat

Thanks for the reply.I haven’t welded in years and never on aluminum. But I have a place right here in town that’s all they do. Thats my next stop tomorrow to see if they’ll do a small job. They’ve modified one or two for some folks I know. Turned one boat into a tunnel hull.

Woke up this morning with a tree on the boat

Tree fell last night across the fence and on my boat. I’ve been working on this project for a year off and on. All I could think of was the time I invested in it and finally got it trustworthy. Running good and it’s time to be fishing. After I carefully cut around it and pulled it out it wasn’t...

    Gas Issues

I’ve heard that side as well. And keeping your tank full does help. It’s the shelf life of e10 gas. If you’re running your boat all the time or monthly. And you don't know how fresh it is when you buy it. If you keep the boat on the water its in a humid environment . When e10 starts to go bad it...

Should I consider a jack plate?

When I said I did all the work myself. I mean with a lot of help here on the forum. Could not have done it without the advice and sharing of knowledge I received here.

Should I consider a jack plate?

Hello everyone, I have a 1980s Monark 1652 aluminum Jon boat. It has a 2 stroke Yamaha 40 hp. Short shaft. The boat’s transom was cut down to accommodate the short shaft. At wot I can look back and see the bottom plate just skimming the top of the water and the prop is hooked up running good...

Seeking Opinions/Advice on the Boat I Just Bought.

Great find for a project boat. Thank you everyone for your input. I’ve been bringing back to life a 1980s Monark 1652 and it had some black stuff on the bottom that has been coming off probably at wot. I’ve now discovered a patch after removing the floor. Planning on putting it on its side and...

    Gas Issues

I’m lucky I have access to none ethanol fuel. Check out a product called Star Tron marine HD. It keeps fuel fresh and helps prevent phase separation and does some cleaning too. I started using it even though I run none ethanol about 6 months ago. The 1992 Yamaha is running better than ever and...

First post, new (to me) boat, and how badly did I screw up?

Before you try to start it go through the complete fuel system. If there’s bad gas or bits of hose etc. You don’t want to suck that through the carburetor. Checking the entire engine over before you ever crank on it could save you a lot of headaches down the road. I’m not to up on out drives...

Carburetor question on restoration I’m working on 1992 40 hp MSHQ Yamaha

What I’m wondering is how it is correct at idle then only reading half at wot and at what point? I haven’t tried the Hardline. Is it more consistent? I was hoping it wasn’t reading quite half. I like running the new prop at wot. I wasn’t planning on running the good prop in the river. It won’t...

Carburetor question on restoration I’m working on 1992 40 hp MSHQ Yamaha

I drill the holes a while back as instructed. As soon as the idle would come back I did not wait on smoke to clear and sprayed the next carburetor. It would sputter and I’d give it a little gas for a second to keep it running. It actually died once but started right up with one pull. After half...

Carburetor question on restoration I’m working on 1992 40 hp MSHQ Yamaha

I did it today. I went into a cove and used the CRC. About half of the can. It coughed spit and tried to die and SMOKED ! Then I drove it like I stole it for quite awhile. Stopped and fished and it started right back up. After warming it back up idling a few minutes I hit wot and the boat...

    Synthetic gear case oil

Hello everyone, I’m wanting to use synthetic oil for the lower unit on my outboard. It’s a 1992 Yamaha 40hp. The manual for the old motor says use hypoid sae 90. All the synthetics I’m finding are multi viscosity , 74w90 or 80w90. Would it be safe to switch to one of these?

1992 Yamaha 40 MSHQ shutting itself down at wot

Boat ran it’s best today! Absolutely no issues! I couldn’t be happier. I feel like all the work is finally paying off.I ran it more today than on any of the other outings. I tried to run it out of fuel but still have about a gallon left. It doesn’t use that much. I even circled the entire lake...

1992 Yamaha 40 MSHQ shutting itself down at wot

Well I finally got the parts and put everything back together the other day. Hoping I got the damper seal correct. Diagram shows it on the tube with a washer above and not coming out of the pump, it wouldn’t fit in the pump anyway . There’s another one in the pump that was missing as well as the...

1992 Yamaha 40 MSHQ shutting itself down at wot

I had my can of CRC with me last time until this happened. I’m concerned now about how long it’s taking the last parts to come in for the water pickup tube. I’ve assembled the water pump waiting. I used a little marine grease in the cup for the impeller to install. Now it’s sitting without the...

1992 Yamaha 40 MSHQ shutting itself down at wot

Forgot to ask. When I hook the water hose up to the tube with the lu off where all should the water come out? Anywhere besides the tale tail?

1992 Yamaha 40 MSHQ shutting itself down at wot

No the pan gasket holds water good. Lol I turned myself farther around so I could see the entire motor better while running wot. My transducer for my depth finder had broken and was kicking up a bunch of water and soaking the motor with a shower. It was epoxied on and didn’t break all the way so...
