    Bolt choice

I am replacing all the rusty bolts before they break. Can I use stainless steel bolts on the exhaust cover and water jacket and also on the head? I worry about galling damage and/or galvanic corrosion. Some say people recommend spraying it with paint or some kind of corrosion inhibitor, what...

    Head removed

Hello, This weekend I decided to pull the head. I wanted to inspect the cylinder walls and pistons plus install a new head gasket. Cylinders look great, no scratches, scoring or any defects. However there is a lot of carbon on top of each piston. What is the recommended way to clean them off...

I have been hearing a lot about keeping your motor down while at home on a trailer. I've been keeping my on the transom saver until I'm ready to launch it. Am I hurting anything by doing this? Thanks, Tom

Had to buy yet another rectifier

I was out this weekend for a final run and I see what kind of speed I could get with my new stainless. I got 44mph (gps). Anyway I noticed my batteries were charging at: Optima-16.5volts and the Everstart-15.9 volts. However the tach was still working but when I was heading back to the dock I...

    Coil Mod part 1

Hello, My 5th plug wire is too short causing it to be very taunt and rub the mounting bracket. I wrapped electrical tape around it for added protection. (see bottom of page) So I decided to lower the coil, but first I needed to remove it. I then fashioned a piece of polycabonite This is...

    Tacky fiblerglass

Hello, I had a small swim deck on my outboard which is loose so I removed it (didn't use it anyway). So I filled in the holes with silicone chalk. Leave it cure for a few weekend. Yesterday I sanded the area around the holes down past the gel coat to the fiberglass. Mixed up a batch of...

    Mixing oil

I always use Quicksilver Synthetic blend 2 cycle outboard oil. The store ran out so I pick up a bottle of Quicksilver premium plus. One is synthetic and the other not. Both are TC-W3. Will it hurt the motor running both oils in the same gas tank? To keep to the 50:1 ratio I have a 6...

Hello, Just got a new grease gun last weekend. The only grease I can find in my area is made by Traveller from Tractor Supply. My manual Says to use Quicksilver 2-4-C with Teflon. Will the grease I bought be ok to use in the steering tube and in the pivot point for the engine. Thanks, Tom

Gauge or Pee fititng for pontoon

Re: Gauge or Pee fititng for pontoon Another option is get a block temp gauge. This gives you a real time temp of your motor all the time as long as the key is on. Tom

    Water tube

When I took my LU off, to put in new seals and a new skeg welded on, the water tube slidout about 4 inches. So I pushed in as far as it would go and I heard a click. I guess the only way to know if it is seated is to shoot water up there with a hose and hope it comes out the relief vents. I...
