    1993 4HP Johnson

Yes sir, I adjusted the throttle stop using the knob on the end of the tiller, per the service manual.

Yeah, she really didn't know. Her husband passed away and she had no idea what she had. The low speed needle is the only adjustment, right?

Thanks, I'll definitely try that. I went ahead and ordered a carb kit online this morning, so that's scheduled for this weekend.

    1993 4HP Johnson

Well, I got home yesterday, changed the spark plugs (old ones still looked fine, but I'd already bought replacements), sprayed some fogging oil in before putting new plugs in, replaced the fuel hose & bulb from the tank to the motor, filled with new 50:1 mix and went to see if it'd start. The...

It does say deluxe on the back of the motor. Is that what you mean?

    1993 4HP Johnson

I only had time to spit shine the outside on my lunch break, but it cleans up pretty good. Fingers crossed it runs as good as it looks.

Thanks. 50:1 it is. I'm crossing my fingers that the previous owner ran the fuel out before storing it. The fuel tank and hose were stored separately in his storage building, so I'm hopeful. Yeah, impeller update was on my list as well.

    1993 4HP Johnson

Morning all! I bought a little fishing boat yesterday with a 1993 4HP Johnson Model # J4RDHETB on it. I bought it from a lady whose husband passed away, so the boat & motor have been sitting for the past couple of years. According to her, it was running when he last used it. Other than...

    Sometimes there are no words

Saw this on Facebook this morning. I really want to see him pull it up the ramp at the end of the day.

Great first trip of the year

We were a little late getting this year's first lake weekend in, mostly due to cooler weather which hung around later than usual this year. Saturday felt like summer time though, with a high of 94. The lake was busy, but nothing like it will be in 2 weeks for Memorial Day weekend. After many...

    First time tooner!

Not sure if it's a sign I'm getting older or what, but I just bought a 2007 Sun Tracker Party Barge 21 with a 60hp Mercury Bigfoot 4 stroke. Other than my granddad owning a toon 30 years ago, and a rental toon last summer...this is a new experience for me & the family. We've been a bowrider...

    1995 Force 120HP...couple of questions

Had an issue with the trim, would go up but not down. Switched the wires on the relays, and discovered that is the issue. How do I change the relays though? Everything in the service manual and here that I see claims that these are easy change plug relays, but I don't see it. They look to be...

Turing on the water in my cruiser

Re: Turing on the water in my cruiser Just a guess, but from Google, I'm led to believe that your boat's fresh water pump switch would be located here

Motor starving for fuel unless I occasionally pump the primer bulb

Re: Motor starving for fuel unless I occasionally pump the primer bulb Is this the fuel pump? (not my motor...but looks identical)

Motor starving for fuel unless I occasionally pump the primer bulb

I did some maintenance on my little boat which hadn't seen the water in a couple of years. 1980/81 Merc 9.8. I cleaned the carbs and replaced the gaskets, as well as replacing the water pump impeller. Also replaced the fuel lines with the new blue hoses and installed a new primer bulb due to...

Water pump replacement on 1980/1981 Mercury 9.8

Re: Water pump replacement on 1980/1981 Mercury 9.8 Crisis averted thanks to my local Merc dealer. When I took my foot and the new impeller to them, they had an old foot in the back that they snatched the impeller pin off of to give me. Whew...I was sweatin'!

Water pump replacement on 1980/1981 Mercury 9.8

Hey fellas...hoping you can offer me advice of whether this is something I want to tackle myself. I'm handy enough to take the carb off and apart, but not sure of the water pump/impeller setup on this little motor. On my bigger outboard, it's not that hard of a job, but I'm thinking this one...

    Cold starting 2 cycle engine

Re: Cold starting 2 cycle engine I'm with JoLin...taking 4 or 5 minutes to start is crazy, and a great way to burn your starter up. Most Mercury motors have the cold start as part of the throttle/shifter. On mine, there's a buttom you push in at the bottom of the shifter where it attaches to...

How did you spend your memorial day?

Re: How did you spend your memorial day? Spent Sunday on Lake Blackshear with about 300 other boats. The wind preceding TS Beryl combined with the wakes from the other boats made it ROUGH ROUGH ROUGH. As the boats started clearing out in the late afternoon, my wife and I were able to enjoy a...

Who's boating, what and where, this Memorial Day weekend??

Re: Who's boating, what and where, this Memorial Day weekend?? Looking like this tropical depression in the gulf might mess up our Memorial Day boating. What had been a 10% & 20% chance of rain on Sunday & Monday has now turned into 60% both days. Should just be thankful for the rain I guess.
