    Mystery hole in Alpha 1 lower unit

    Changing my impeller and noticed this hole in the little basin just to the right of the 2 bolt holes on the left side of the pic. It looks to me like it's supposed to be there, maybe a drain hole or? Lower was completely dry when I took it apart and no water in the oil. Do I need to worry about it?

    In gear to pull lower unit?

    Does it need to be in gear to remove just the lower unit (89 alpha 1)? I'm looking at the Merc manual and I don't see anything about putting it in gear when dropping the lower, just says to put it in fwd when removing the whole thing. I'm only changing the impeller and gear oil at this point.

    Is there an online Merc service manual for a 1998 3.0? Or where can I get one? My brother in law just picked up a 98 Maxum, great shape, almost new motor and he got no Merc manual. Thanks!

    ATF for power steering or Dexron lll?

    I need to add a little fluid to my power steering and Merc manual says use ATF type F, Dexron, or Dexron ll. I have a whole bunch of Dexron Mercon lll, can I use that? Also, can the same stuff be used for trim motor res?

    Changing all my cooling hoses and the transom/outdrive to power steering cooler hose has an adapter (smaller piece of hose) that goes on the outdrive nipple.     How to get stubborn rotor off

    Changing the cap and rotor. Tried to pull the rotor off and it won't budge. Do I have to destroy it to get it off? I hate breaking things and hate risking breaking something else! 1989 4.3 Alpha Thunderbolt. Thanks!

    Carb base gasket buttered or no?

    Hey, transferring my 2bbl mercarb to a different manifold, do I use sealer on the new gasket or no? The old one is stuck to the manifold pretty good and I scraped what looks like sealer residue off the bottom of the carb.
