    Opened up my 79 Johnson control box to replace key switch. Found wire connected to gray tach wire run back to positive of battery. What would that do ?why would someone do that?

    First trip out after rebuild

    Motor ran good , ran about 32-35mph . 1979 Silverline tri hull with 1973 johnson 135. Only thing changed out control box to newer mid 80's style . Don't like feel of control and shifting , . My old 73 control had broken ignition key . Will switch from newer control work in older one ?

    Sheared flywheel key

    Got timing all set , cables adjusted , running great . Put in water went to start sheared flywheel key . Had it tourqued properly 100 ft pounds . Extra compression and water back pressure must been to much . Had been off many times before, but still looked good.

    when setting control cables , the idle screw should be pulled back so is against block right? Is the cable adjusted by the thumb wheels on cable?

    Got motor started today after rebuild . While on muffs if u race engine a little at carb it hitches or stumbles. I figured was normal because timing wasn't being advanced to . Hoping I'm right. Didn't have control hooked up yet .

    Got pistons and crank back in , question #1 , my block halves have the spaghetti seal. Do you just puts sealer right over seal? Not sure where sealer goes. Question #2 looking down at my reeds they look open slightly ,is that ok or normal ?

    What are some good ways to remove wrist ion without damaging piston skirt . Book says use some heat . Was thinking need some sort of holding fixture

    Re: Powerhead removal 135 Got motor tore down . No broken bolts came apart nice . I am thinking might be rebuilt powerhead at one time . Very little wear on parts . Any tips on assembly ?

    1973 135 hp Johnson .. Last year I put new stator in , tearing down today to put some pistons in noticed stator has some cracks in the coils . Not big but enough so a little gunk was coming out forming a drop on bottom of coil. What would cause that with new stator? Don't want to buy another one...

    Powerhead removal 135

    Does the engine shroud come completely off ? I removed 3 bolts each side and 4 nuts 2 at front and 2 back. Shift linkage and wires. The lift bracket uses the flywheel puller 3 bolt holes , those are strong enough to pull powerhead off .

    Can I remove steering cable without lifting motor off transom ? I don't think there is enough room to pull cable out . I was thinking drilling another hole to pull cable thru.

My boat came with another control that has power trim button and choke is in ignition switch by pushing it in . Has all cables and red plug which my motor has. Will that control work ? Will choke...
