compression on a 9.9 pull start

Both cylinders are close to each other, and these 2 strokes aren't high compression Engines. So if it runs fine, I wouldn't lose any Sleep over it

    No Spark 1971 Evinrude 60hp

In the late 70s we used to "borrow" the neighbours Boat by doing something to get it running without the Key, but we had to wrap a Rope around the Flywheel to start it. Once it was running we could use it. I can't remember if we had Neutral and Reverse, or just Forward.

    Mercury 80 HP outboard

If the Test Tank is bigger than a Garbage Can, Maybe. The Prop needs an uninterrupted supply of water to be properly loaded, that means no Air, which happens when the Test Tank is too small As for keeping it running, with the Cable unhooked, the linkage will move very easily at the Engine.

    Fuel for older Evinrude/ Johnson

That Carbon Build Up on the Valves is from Crankcase Vapours from the PCV. Older FI Engines which sprayed the Fuel upstream of the Intake Valves, didn't have much crude on the Valve Face, because of the Detergents in the Gas washed the Valves. Newer DI Engines actually had an Injector added to...

    Running Rough at Idle

There is no Idle Timing Spec. That "2ATDC-6BTDC" spec is the Pickup Timing, which would the Spark Advance, where the Carbs ever so slightly move from Fully Closed. When you adjust the Idle Speed, you are adjusting the Idle Timing. If you were turning some screw to open the Carbs, or as fiddled...

Mercury 80 hp portable fuel tank

I know this will get Responses that I am full of it, but having dealt with these Motors for over 50 yrs and seen what Improper Mixing does... It still needs Agitation, mixing to mix. Pouring the Oil in to a tank, then adding fuel doesn't do a great job, filling the Tank, then pouring in the Oil...

    Mercury 80 HP outboard

You have to disconnect the Throttle Cable when making the Idle Speed Adjustment(in Gear). Once it is correct, the Length of the Throttle Cable will need to be adjusted so there is a slight Preload(Pressure against the Idle Stop on the Throttle Linkage) on it. Too little Preload and the Idle...

1964 was the Year OMC went to 50:1. TCW Oils hadn't been created yet. They appeared in about 1966 Some of the 1957 - 1963 OMC Engines could run on 50:1 instead of the Speced 24:1. These were the 35hp and the 40hp models, and all the V4s. They were all Anti-Friction Powerheads, with no Friction...
