Best years for 70-75hp Johnson/Evinrude outboards

They may looks the Same, or Similar, but the Early ones were 49.7 Cubic Inch Blocks, while sometime in the 80s the Displacement was increased. Out of Curiosity, what brand of Motor are you currently running?

    Inconsistent performance 84' blackmax 150

Having a Bowl full of Fuel, doesn't prove a Cylinder isn't being Fuel A dirty/clogged Jet or Fuel Circuit inside the Carb can cause a Fuel Starvation.

    Inconsistent performance 84' blackmax 150

Again. it sounds like a Cylinder dropped out. Hopefully it is an Ignition problem, cause even though the Engine is strained by the higher load on the remain Cylinders, it still getting Oil. Fuel Starvation also starves that Cylinder of Oil. Of course a Fuel Problem could be Too Much Fuel, and...

Is this oil okay for my 1960 Johnson Sea-Horse JW-16, 3 HP, 2-cylinder? And is 16:1 the right fuel mix?

That has Friction Bearings and 50:1 just isn't enough Oil, The Ratio should be on a Decal on the Fuel Tank. The Service Manuals I have for that Motor say 24:1 While Present Day Oils are vastly Superior to the stuff used in the early 60s, the original Ratios are still used, with exceptions list...

Just thought I'd share a nice photo.

They are Wild Animals, and should be Respected as such. About 30 yrs ago I was driving on a Highway, and the Car in front of me, braked Hard, pulled over and stopped. As I approached, the Driver got out, camera in Hand to take some Pics of 2 cubs that were off the Road on the other Side...

    Good spray on weed killers.

40 years ago, I used to use a Product called Ureabor, It was granular Soil Sterilant. It was basically 2 out of 3 Parts that make up Fertilizer, and it would really dry out/burn the Plants. It guaranteed a 1 yr Kill, but often it was good for 3 - 5 yrs As for Round Up, the original Product was...

Engine hour meter clicks with ignition on, but engine not running

The Hour Meter is gets Power when the Ignition Circuit is energized. As mentioned above, the engine is likely running under those Conditions. I guess, if you are really Bent about it, it could be wired in a way that it only gets power when the Alternator is spinning, or when there is Oil Pressure

    1979 Mercury outboard

You could try contacting a Merc Dealership, but I doubt the Part is available. Your best bet is just find another motor, in better Condition, and keep this one for parts. Weren't you trying mix and match Power Trim Systems between this motor and a 44 inch 50hp?

    Hole shot

The 4.3 is not going to be a Rocket, or a Speed Demon, in a 21 footer. To get a seriously better Hole Shot, you are gonna need to lower the Pitch to where you will be over revving the Motor, more than a bit, at WOT. Did you buy this boat new, or used?

    1970 6hp Evinrude 6003B Shear pin.

Shear Pin? Those Motors used a Stainless Steel Drive Pin, designed not to Shear, as protection from Impacts was provided by other Means

Prop Slip, or seriously unloaded Engine? How long is your boat? Maybe a 4.3 is a bit small for it?

1957 Johnson 35hp short to long shaft

Propshaft and Driveshaft are two separate shafts. There are a Few Bearings on the Driveshaft, a few other items that can inhibit rotation You are gonna have to drop the Gearcase to replace the Water Pump Impeller. Do that and see if the Crankshaft rotates
