    interesed in a BF90

Buy a spray can of fogging oil and go crazy on it. The goal is stop the air contact with the metal.

    interesed in a BF90

That top picture is a ton of rust, I'm going to guess the cylinders are pitted deep enough that it's going to need more than a hone to fix it. Also the bearings inside the motor are also likely rusted, possibly the crank and rod journals too. Sure you can probably scrape the rust off, get it...

    interesed in a BF90

So many possibilities. If it's not the head gasket, it could be a cracked cylinder, cracked head, hole in an intake or exhaust runner in the head, maybe a base gasket depending on the motor (I'm not knowledgeable on that specific model), etc.. Most likely it will need to be disassembled and...

BF8A & Sore Wrist (Hard Starting)

If the starting problem is when it's hot, then try just cracking the throttle to start it. Maybe 1/4 throttle. Hot 4-strokes like to be lean to start, cracking the throttle a little bit will help.

99' BF50A timing belt tensioner torque

Can anyone tell me the official Honda torque for the bolt that holds the timing belt tensioner pulley on a 99' BF50A? I've got a Clymer manual and for that bolt it gives a generic 26 ft-lb which seems like a lot for a bolt that size into aluminum, I chickened out at 21 ft-lb, but I would really...

BF8A & Sore Wrist (Hard Starting)

Check that the proper spark plugs are being used and check the gaps. Next time it won't start, crack the drain screw on the carburetor and see if any fuel comes out. If not, then that's your problem.

    2001 25hp Nissan NS25C3 - Trouble Starting

That "optimal" plug is not representative of an actual "optimal" plug from an old school premix 2-stroke boat motor. That looks like a plug from a 4-stroke, or a 2-stroke that was run extremely hard.

Honda BF75 Hot and Weak Telltale

If you can get your hands on a leak down tester, you can pressurize the cylinders and you might be able to hear where the air is leaking. You could remove the thermostat or exhaust plate if there is one and possibly hear the air leaking into the water jacket area. Also that cylinder would show...

Honda BF75 Hot and Weak Telltale

Stick a long piece of weed whacker string up the telltale and poke it around, while the motor is running, and see if you can dislodge anything. You might just have a lot of debris in there that starts to build up while it runs.

    Identify Yamaha side-mount throttle

Can anyone help me identify the Yamaha part number for this side mount throttle, and possible the throttle and shift cables that would go with it? It's attached to a 1993 model C85TLRR 85HP motor. I don't have access to the boat right now, but I do have a few pictures. It's on a boat we're...

    85HP 2-stroke known weaknesses - C85TLRR - 1993

Yes, this is part of the challenge. The trim relay is bad (only trims one direction) and it's on a flats boat with a poling platform, and the platform prevents us removing the hood on the motor without fighting with the trim. The owner is an elderly woman who cannot physically get to the boat...

    85HP 2-stroke known weaknesses - C85TLRR - 1993

Thanks for the reply. Is there something particularly troublesome about the carburetors on this motor?

    Honda BF25 identification

Anything can happen. I bought a Yamaha generator that sat on the sales floor at a dealer for 5 or 6 years, at a good discount. Who knows, maybe it was in the back, or was a display model, etc. No telling.

    85HP 2-stroke known weaknesses - C85TLRR - 1993

Can anyone fill me in on known weaknesses on the 85HP model C85TLRR 2-strokes? It's a 1993 model year. My teenage son is looking at a used boat with one of these, it's a fresh water motor that looks clean for the age, but I'm interested to know if these have any known issues that I should look...

Honda BF25A leaking oil when hot.

I can't help with disassembly, but muffs are fine if it's getting enough water. My 50 has the same water vent over the prop and I've been flushing it on muffs since I bought it new in 99', I let it run at high idle (~1200-1500rpm) for about 15 minutes while we wash the rest of the boat after...

Honda BF25A leaking oil when hot.

It's not normal for impellers to come apart like that under normal use. Was that an OEM impeller, or after market? Also did you replace the cup at the same time? Was the motor ever run out of the water? Or maybe run through a lot of sand? The top edges don't look melted so maybe it wasn't...

    NS40C Water flow

Put it in a garbage can to see if it's pumping, fill the water above the water pump before you start it. When running on muffs, be sure there is a lot of water flow, you need a good hose that puts out a lot. Also check for additional water vents that might need to be covered, such as under the...

    2003 BF50 high idle

What happened just before this problem started? i.e. did someone remove and clean the carburetors, or did someone try to synchronize the carburetors, etc? Does it sound like it's only running on 1 or 2 cylinders? Without more information, my first guess would be the carburetors are horribly...
