Vortec 5.7 Intake Manifold Sealing Recommendations

These gaskets/cylinder heads have the locating pins.....I did see a post where someone suggested making guide pins out of bolts to help install the manifold, might try that. Searching around for Quick-Silver Perfect Seal, several sites say out of stock or superseded by the Permatex Aviation...

Vortec 5.7 Intake Manifold Sealing Recommendations

Yes, understood.....I have some of the #242 blue threadlocker on hand. So is it better to seal or lock the threads?

Vortec 5.7 Intake Manifold Sealing Recommendations

I knew the white stuff on the threads was sealant, just didn't know what type/brand. The Seloc manual that I have says to use loctite on the threads. These bolts clearly had sealant and not loctite.....so wondering which way to go??

Vortec 5.7 Intake Manifold Sealing Recommendations

I went down this rabbit hole when I first purchased this boat.....there is no tag on the engine above the starter. I was able to get in touch with the shop that supplied the rebuilt engine........this is the line out of their engine serial ID numbers from their website: the 2 or 4 is in the main...

Vortec 5.7 Intake Manifold Sealing Recommendations

There was some sort of white sealant on the bolts, still somewhat soft

Vortec 5.7 Intake Manifold Sealing Recommendations

Only info I have for the engine is that it's a 95-00 Vortec Gen 1, 880 casting. Left side bell housing casting: GM 5.7L SMCO B069 Right side bell housing casting: 10243880 Felpro gaskets were on the motor, I purchased the equivalent Sierra brand

Vortec 5.7 Intake Manifold Sealing Recommendations

I pulled the intake manifold off of this replacement engine because there was an oil leak on the rear which I traced to the seal between the manifold and the block. Once it was off there was about an 1/8" gap between the bead of silicone and the gasket. Pretty sure that is my culprit as the...

Idle Issue - Carb or Fuel Problem??

I wanted to follow up on this in case anyone else has this issue. It's been several months now, but my work schedule has been crazy...not leaving me enough spare time. Pulled the carb apart for the rebuild, first thing to note was an excessive amount of debris in the fuel bowl, it was a...

    Shift Cable Bellows Replacement

I am in the process of replacing this and want some advise on the best way to seal the new boot to the transom. Is the Quicksilver adhesive the way to go or would any marine grade sealant work?

Idle Issue - Carb or Fuel Problem??

Yes....TKS carb. Not familiar with them, when I first started the engine I thought there was a bad vacuum leak or some other issue until I realized where the air sucking sound was coming from, it's pretty loud when the engine is cold.

Idle Issue - Carb or Fuel Problem??

Scrounged through my old carb parts and found enough fittings to hook up my fuel pressure gauge. When the engine fired, went to 1200 and stayed there for several minutes then decreased to 1000 rpms.....during this time the gauge read a steady 6.5 psi. After it warmed up, the valve closed and the...

Idle Issue - Carb or Fuel Problem??

Ran the motor again off the bottle today. Had my assistant prime the throttle while I looked down inside the carb......a steady stream out of both squirters. Hit the key, fired right up just like the last few days......except this time the motor goes directly to 1400rpms. Warms up in 10 minutes...

Idle Issue - Carb or Fuel Problem??

Yes to the throttle cable I am not sure, I will have to fire it back up and check today.

Idle Issue - Carb or Fuel Problem??

There is no place to tap into the fuel line from the pump to the carb to check the pressure. I am going to have to get the #91-18078 pressure test fitting. I'll have to order one, doubt I can find it locally. Is it possible to measure the vacuum from one of the inlet ports to the fuel...

Idle Issue - Carb or Fuel Problem??

Yep, now I have a huge mess on my hands as I filled the tank....stupid move if I have to syphon it all out. I ran it straight off of a gas can today with fresh 89 octane, when it fired up it went straight to 1200 rpms and then slowly decreased as the engine warmed up. After 16 minutes the...

Idle Issue - Carb or Fuel Problem??

Although I am sure this topic has been discussed before, I have searched the forum and still have questions. My problem is an erratic and unstable idle with this 5.7 2bbl motor. I purchased this boat in December at which time the tank was half full of unknown fuel. I added enough marine Stabil...

Seat Repair Suggestions 2007 LXI 208 Seats

The Milsco seat inserts on both the captain and mate's seats has come apart on this boat. The foam has separated from the plastic frame. It looks like to me that either the foam has swelled, the vinyl/plastic outer covering has shrunk or a little of both. Has anyone experienced this same problem...

    Proper Engine Oil Level

The condition of the oil in the motor was unknown, since I had just recently purchased the boat. If there would have been any water in it I didn't want to circulate it by running the engine until it warmed up. This engine has the 90 degree swivel fitting at the back of the pan with the drain...
