    Proper Engine Oil Level

So I finally talked with the guy that runs the shop that rebuilt the engine. I am going to share exactly what he told me, so take it for what it is worth or disregard entirely........first I was trying to determine if the long block actually had an oil pan installed or if the original pan off...

Timing Adjustment 5.7 Vortec Slow Crank

Live and learn..........I spent a lot more time than I needed to literally standing on my head in the engine compartment trying to figure things out. Next time I'll check the starter out first when I run into a situation like this.

    Proper Engine Oil Level

    Interesting follow-up...I finally heard back from the company that supplied the rebuilt engine for the PO. I asked the exact question that I originally posted here. This is the response;

    Proper Engine Oil Level

My problem is that there is no tag with a serial number on this engine, just the casting number on the bell housing and 880 on the side of the block

    Proper Engine Oil Level

So the question is....fill with 4 quarts like the dipstick says or fill with 5.5 quarts like the manual says? Also, is there any difference between a factory 5.0 or 5.7 engine and a remanned 5.7 engine in regards to oil capacity, different sized pan, configuration, etc???

    Proper Engine Oil Level

The last one listed is the dipstick that I have......35.25" in length, 33.50" to the full mark. There is even a -9 stamped at the top near the stop.

    Proper Engine Oil Level

I see the mistake in Alldodge's last attachment.........the last dipstick listed, #861942-9 has an overall length (C) in inches that is shorter than the dimension to the fill line (A). The mm dimension makes sense.

    Proper Engine Oil Level

Understood.........use the SELOC manual for firestarter material only!!! Guess I need to invest in a factory service manual.

    Proper Engine Oil Level

I will measure the dipstick for comparison. Not sucking.....this motor has the oil drain hose assembly. So the SELOC manual is incorrect? It shows 4.5 quarts for both 5.0 and 5.7 carb or MPI for 2007

    Proper Engine Oil Level

Okay, I'm trying to figure this one out.....the original motor was a 5.0, replaced with a remanned 5.7 Vortec in 2012, unsure of the actual year of the replacement engine. The little bit of maintenance that I have done in the few weeks that I have owned it tells me that some parts were swapped...

Timing Adjustment 5.7 Vortec Slow Crank

Been a several week delay on this due to work schedule, bad weather and obtaining parts, but I finally sorted out my problem. I had already done some of the suggestions stated above from alldodge before I posted the original question. Since then I installed a new water separator/fuel filter...

Timing Adjustment 5.7 Vortec Slow Crank

Just bought a 2007 Larson LXI 208, originally a 5.0 2bbl, now has a remanned 5.7 2bbl. Starting out with basic maintenance trying to eliminate a slow crank. New battery, cleaned or repaired all connections to switch and starter. Checked base timing at idle = 16-18 advanced, grounded ignition...
