    Needing higher rpm

In post #11 "I figured out the pitch on the prop was 23 not 19 like I thought. So I'm way over propped."

    Needing higher rpm

You said it was a 17, now it is a 19, so that just threw out my and QBhpy's caluclations out the Window. Why torture the Poor Motor even More? You are overpropped, if you haven't damaged the Engine yet, continued operating it like that will do so. How does the Tach get its Info? If it is an...

    Needing higher rpm

At 25 mph and a 17" Prop, your engine is turning about 3600 rpm. So the tach likely not accurate, but I think a 17 is too much prop for an 18ft Pontoon. That said, I think you need the give the engine a through check over. First a compression test, post the Numbers Can the Spark, on all Cylinder...

Merc 850 Inline 6 Piston Scoring

I had a couple of those Inlines. I liked them, even though I was treated with disdain, being in an OMC Family. The Hickling ended when my 90hp and 115 inlines could out pull, have Higher Top Speed, than the OMC 90s and 115 respectively, and the 115 even beating the 135-140s, and doing sp on...

If you can't afford to rebuilt properly it the First Time, how are you going to afford rebuilding a Second Time?

Merc 850 Inline 6 Piston Scoring

You can't squeeze the Bearing Cap, as that will ruin it, you will need to find a way to keep it anchored As for the Pistons, they are Scuffed and Scored, and so will likely need replacing. What do the Cylinders look like? Have you measured them for Wear? 2 Stroke Cylinders wear differently...

Merc 850 Inline 6 Piston Scoring

The Bearing should be a Service Part, now getting it out will likely involve a Slide Hammer and outward facing Jaws, with the End Cap secured

Mercury XR2 150 stuggling to get on plane.

Interesting that the Piston itself went bye bye, but the Rings are still there Doubt it was Overheating The only way those Cylinders would be starved of Oil and the others not, would be lack of Fuel to them. Go through the Center Carb and Fuel Line suppling it, very thoroughly, you will find...

Mercury XR2 150 stuggling to get on plane.

What do 3 and 4 share? The Center Carb, if it went lean from Fuel Starvation... Plug looks awfully Dry. I doubt the 'Oil Injection' is to blame as Mercury mixes the Oil in to the Gas, so all Cylinders would get the same Mix

    1977 Evinrude 85 hp w a 140 carb?

The 77 85hp uses a 92.6 cu in Block, not the 99.6 in block the 140 uses. In 1979, OMC started using a 99.6 in block for the 85hp In 1971 and 72, OMC did use a 92.6 in Block to get 100 hp, however whether an 85hp block can be hopped up I don't know if the parts needed would fit on the later 92.6...

    Caddy XT5 Towing Capability

Of course a turbo of the same relative Displacement will have more power. However it will likely have a Lower compression Ratio to handle the Boost, which when no Boost, the NA 3.6, with I think 11.5:1, has the advantage for fuel Economy. The XT5 gets better Gas Mileage than my STS did even...

    Caddy XT5 Towing Capability

I live where it is very Flat, only a River Valley for Slopes, and Overpasses seem like Mountains, so the V4 thing is active about 45% of the time in City Driving, on the Highway it has come on but not much. I find that the Auto Brake responds real Quick when a car in front hits the Brakes hard...

    Caddy XT5 Towing Capability

No choices on the Displacement, I haven't seen any aftermarket fixes. You will have a Button on the Dash to disable the Auto Stop, but it has to be done every time you start the Car. An Inexpensive Cable installed near the Hood Latch, convinces the ECM that the Hood is open and Disables the...

    Caddy XT5 Towing Capability

I have an XT5(I actually bought for the Girlfriend as she has a couple of pre 5ers), and the 3.6 has a pretty good Torque Curve(watch out GM also puts a 2 liter in it too). I wouldn't tow my boat(3490#) with it, as I have the Roadmaster and the RWD Fleetwood for that, with towing Capacities of...

any tire preference for vans at the boat ramp?

Are you planning on loading on a Cliff? There are some Tires( Michelin Cross Climate come to mind), that are very good in the Summer, even though they are Mud and Snow Tires, that would probably be a good choice.
