Started out as a good day on the water. 4.3 mercruiser

Why in the world does Merc seem to glue on those rotors? Talk about making a simple job a headache! I’m curious how reliable the aftermarket modules are for the EST system are. It doesn’t sound like there’s a widespreaad problem so maybe it’s not a complex component to reproduce.

Started out as a good day on the water. 4.3 mercruiser

I would leave what you have as long as it's working right. I looked into the Delco EST to replace my points distributor but what I found is that it isn't genuine Delco but Sierra aftermarket. Don't know of all of the ones sold are like that but in my searching it seemed that way. Decided to stay...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

ethanol is the devil for marine engines just had 30 gallons pumped out of my tank due to having to use that! yeah some people have no problems, neither did I till last year.....I learned from that, to run it on the outboard tank BEFORE rebuilding carbs and replacing points, lol.

View of unloaded trailer with pickups

I bought a set of tow mirrors for my 2007 Grand Cherokee but usually I can get the trailer where I want with the regular mirrors, the guide poles help 100%. Both to see the tail end of the trailer and getting it in deep enough for launching off the roller trailer. The boat sits up high (about 2"...

Carb problems on 1994 Mercruiser 7.4 Thunderbolt V

Are you using e 10 fuel? If so some of the Orings for the accel pump will leak, there are better ones available, thru suppliers like Cliff's High Performance Quadrajets and Quadrajet Parts There should not be any fuel visible around the plunger for the accel pump. Another cause of sticking...

    PSA for inboard gas owners.....

The Xintex that I installed back in 2013 has really gone up in price but is still worth it.

How do I safely remove anti-siphon and intake line?

I would not use E15 in any marine engine, in fact marine engine companies have said this. Also I'd use higher than 87 octane, use at least 89. The problem with E gas in general is that the ethanol absorbs moisture in the air and especially on older boats with open fuel tank vents, it can lead...

    PSA for inboard gas owners.....

Makes sense to me. I added the fume detector back in 2013. There is a frightening lack of understanding of the risks of gas vapor & explosion issues with gas inboards. Watch at the gas dock see how many people actually open the engine hatch and sniff. Very few.

    PSA for inboard gas owners.....

The funny thing is that....the smaller one is only 70 lbs, very easy to roll down the beach, the larger one is much heavier like 148 lbs with the motor on it. So I wind up using the smaller 8 footer a lot more. I have to find a better dolly set up to make it easier because the Walker Bay 10 with...

    PSA for inboard gas owners.....

I'm buying another, one for the house (furnace and stove are natural gas) and boat (gas inboard)! My boat sits on a salt water mooring all season so I do keep a fair number of tools and such (Tach/Dwell), feeler gauge, point file, plug gapper, timing light, etc). It's a pain to keep bringing...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

The best beer story: About 20 years ago I was at the Pocono 500 with my son, close friend and friends from work. Typical NASCAR day, few groups on the verge of a fist fight, but mostly calm. About midway a lady near us stands up and exclaims: Oh My GOD, We've Run out of BEER! we all laughed, she...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

I’d use thicker PVC for a double or triple IPA! Plus add hold downs, you don’t want you beer sliding around down there!

    Fuel came out overflow

I never fill mind all the way up. The tank is 44 gallons so it’s easy to estimate each 1/4 of a tank is about 11 gallons.

best muffs to use on mercruisers?

Agreed I like the genuine Merc ones, I used to use the dual inlet ones from Tempo and others and what I found was the rubber was too stiff to conform to the shape of the lower unit. The Merc ones are made out of much softer rubber. As soon as the engine starts the water quits spraying out the...

    PSA for inboard gas owners.....

True but if the tank coffin is vented, & there is a leak in the tank (often at the bottom due to water not escaping) that vapor will become apparent sooner or later. You could still have a leak whether or not it's apparent. Alternatively, I think if you have a hatch over the tank like my boat...

How to run twin 5.0s from portable outboard tanks

Also, I picked up a portable combustible gas/vapor meter, these can be used to check for gas vapor fumes, as well as propane and nat gas. You might want to check around carefully before doing anything.

How to run twin 5.0s from portable outboard tanks

I did that for testing last year, I would also suggest putting a shut off valve on the fuel line between the outboard tank and the engine fuel pump, just in case. Make sure the lines are safely routed as well.

2005 Mercruiser 5.0L MPI (bravo 3) suddenly started overheating

What temp is your thermostat? If a 160 it is going to run from about 160 to 175, the latter being seen after you come off plane but it should cool down a little lower after coming plane and idling for a few minutes You can do a few tests to narrow down the casuse: 1) look up the spec for the...
