The shift rod is exposed there.----Very normal.-----There is a seal on the shift rod , but nowhere near that exposed part.-----Did you let the motor sit for 3 days before checking the oil?
Some 9.9 /15 HP motors may have been leased by fishing lodges.---Returned to factory for a new hood and cosmetic touch up.-----Sold at some dealerships,----It is a " buyer beware " sometimes.
I always ask folks to post the actual compression values,----Need to establish condition of the engine,-----Where did you purchase the pump and carburetor?----I would have repaired the pump and carburetor you had, very easy to do.
The Ford engine does not go from 600 to 6000RPM very often.----The outboard does when waterskiing or just playing.----Nor does the ford need to run at 5500RPM all day long.
???----Post states---" normal start-up is a 100:1 "-----And I say it starts with what ever mixture is in the carburetors.----There is no ECU that decides 100:1 on initial start!----Technicality I know.-----It is important for owner to understand / learn how this motor works.----Saves money.
