2000 Sea Ray 190 CC Hull Soft Spot

Picture one, no big deal. Picture two looks like either an impact from flotsam or stress cracking from excessive flexing. If the former, it's not a big deal. If the latter, than there are underlying structural issues causing excessive flex like a rotten or broken free stringer or bulkhead...

    What type boat to buy

Check out Cruisers Forum. This place is more for small sub-35' powerboats and day sailors. But to answer your question: the only thing that works on an old boat is the owner. If you want to do this, you can, but you better learn how to be handy and get down and dirty, otherwise you have to be a...

    Went with the Durango R/T

I have towed my ~5,200 lb. 25' with the Durango RT (2020, RWD) from Annapolis, MD to Marathon, FL and back last year, as well as from Annapolis, MD to Escanaba, MI and back this year. Get about 14 or 15 MPG towing at highway speeds of 65-70 MPH and have never felt unsafe trailering or...

    Motor swap, back and forth.

Having the power means nothing if you don't use it? A 20 HP limit is asinine. What they should do is limit boat size and/or speed.

Maybe my turn for new boat time

Yeah, I'm never selling my old boat 😁. In all seriousness, hope you get it resolved! I'd almost be demanding a new boat at this point and threatening to sue under lemon laws.

    Freshwater Boat to Saltwater

Do not wet slip it in salt for 5 months! Doing so would require an epoxy barrier coat, bottom paint, outdrive/outboard antiquing paint, fresh anodes, and some sort of device to flush the motor after use. You're much better off renting a lift or dry rack.

That sounds terrible. Time to start taking the engine apart.

Everything done but low rpm at WOT. Distributor spring?

Maybe, but the spark gets progressively weaker. Not sure if this is HEI/EST or points, but the former really needs close to 12 volts to run well. I've seen Mercruisers have no spark with just under 9 volts (like 8.75). OP, you should test coil voltage with a voltmeter. It can't hurt.

Everything done but low rpm at WOT. Distributor spring?

What is the coil voltage? You could have weak spark.

Buy a 40, put a 20 HP sign on the cover.

    Possible buy (engine option)?

This boat is too old to go into thinking this way...if you were to buy it, a full restoration is needed and likely even if well-maintained.

    1996 mercriuser 5.7 alpha one gen 2

Or you could fix it...but a friendly tip: ditch the Fram oil filters in the future. They are absolute garbage. Worst filters on the market, especially for a marine engine.

    1996 mercriuser 5.7 alpha one gen 2

100% head gasket. Been there done that. This is the exact noise they make.
