    100+ outboards

the 2cyl and 3cyl loopers are my bread and butter, i suspect like many of us old 2 stroke rebuild shops. my limit for a clean re-builder (max .020'' over if its just minor scoring) is $250. i consider any motor not able to be demonstrated on stand a re-builder, or one flopped over on its side...

1982 Johnson 50 Sea Horse - Constant Beep While Accelerating

yep definitely check that those relief holes are spitting water after it warms up. with the IR gun, blip the throttle in neutral. you should see the temp sharply decrease. if you dont you know you have a restriction in the water tube grommet or exhaust seals as i mentioned (if theres no crack in...

1982 Johnson 50 Sea Horse - Constant Beep While Accelerating

these particular motors will run on the verge of overheating if one or both lower exhaust seals are leaking. especially the upper one if that leaks/gets pinched, it will get hot. there needs to be a "wall of water" cooling the exhaust which is impossible without the seal. easy way to tell if...

    Help identifying fitting. 2000 225

unfortunately im not at my shop but its either a drain fitting that goes into the airbox, or a recirc hose that goes to one cylinder port side but it doesnt look like a check valve one. Racer could tell you.

    Help identifying fitting. 2000 225

drain fitting. what does the hose routing diagram in your manual say?

Yet, another Gale sovereign 40 question.

omc #321504 should be the correct upper crank seal but id certainly take the whole motor apart in an afternoon for a complete reseal. gasket sets are extremely cheap now too.

    1982 Johnson outboard 60 hp 2 cly

yep just to clarify temp is taken at 900rpm at TOP of the head. these models have a nice flat spot for the old thermomelt sticks... now we use IR guns. temp MUST be between 125-152.5f after 5 minutes. on these motors the rubber exhaust seal must be in good shape and not pinched. you will know...

1998 evinrude 225 ocean pro, no spark! Help!

what shop spends the time to grind an impact socket so it will fit, vs just using a regular non-tapered socket? system needs to crank 250rpm minimum to do a proper DVA cranking test. also not sure what he means by "no voltage at high tension"... well yea gotta load test the power pack!

    OMC 6hp Mag Flash

im not sure where your getting this reliability thing. 1st ive heard. now it is true if you use the modern knockoffs / nova 2 ones with factory coils they wont last long. but never atom/sierra magnatunes. literally never hear of a single failure, including dozens ive done for customers over the...

    OMC 6hp Mag Flash

well comparing just 2 charge coils and 2 Atom modules to a CDI with sensor, charge, ignition and power pack i meant its better than either one (CD or points) in basically every category on this motor.

    OMC 6hp Mag Flash

why not convert to ATOM or Sierra red/green ignition modules? now you have a transistor doing the switching and not points that wear and oxidize.

    Evinrude 55 1978 gearcase

i believe the oil slinger pushes oil up there at some pressure for the bearing. needs a path for the seal too. being a 15'' short shaft as racer said best bet is to get a good used gearcase housing as complete ones are like hens teeth and very expensive and still a crap-shoot

    2000 30hp Johnson possible water restriction/over heats

indeed. those dual quickstart temp senders are like hens teeth

    2000 30hp Johnson possible water restriction/over heats

this is excellent advice! one of the most critical things you can do is verify the temp sender is closing at the appropriate temp (im guessing this is a blue stripe one so 240f or so in a pot of oil. i like to replace with the all-brown ones that close at 200f or so) and that the hot horn is...

1993 fast strike 150 carb jets

i think the fastrike 150 is basically a stock non-fastrike 175. honestly i could never tell much of a difference between any of them, accept for the 1st year 1991 un-molested ones with the hot heads. those were special.

1993 fast strike 150 carb jets

yes. use a 1/8npt to 5/16 barb fitting with gel seal around the threads. double check its not a 3/8 pulse fitting but i think 8mm/5/16 is correct
