Weird situation, looking for advice/how to repair

Latest update on this motor: my lower cowling came in. I ended up breaking 2 bolt heads off trying to remove the power head. I’ve never had a bolt head break off before, and unfortunately it looks like these are in a really bad place for that to happen

    Lowest compression you’d buy

Racer your responses and knowledge are unparalleled on the boards in my opinion. If you had someone just starting out today knowing literally nothing about outboard motors and they wanted to learn what would you recommend? (My guess AOMCI + iboats+ YouTube + reading service manuals) I would...

    Lowest compression you’d buy

I appreciate your insight! Well thought out response. I’ve got a good compression tester because it’s read well on ny other motors. I had similar reading on both cylinders, so I probably should’ve assumed compression was ok: I’ve read I want compression 100/100 or better l, and this 25 hp was...

    Lowest compression you’d buy

I meant to say starting not selling.

    Lowest compression you’d buy

I talked to the guy that bought it. He said started right up 2nd pull and he’s gonna sell it I was reading yesterday and looks like I made a big mistake selling it. I didn’t realize compression can’t effectively be tested until motor is running. I’ve always run a compression test before I’ve...

    Lowest compression you’d buy

That’s basically exactly what I assumed. This week is I begin the process of trying to put a different motor back together.

    Lowest compression you’d buy

I’m glad buyer got a good deal then. I had little to no use for motor, so I was happy to pass it along for cheap. I’d have liked to got it running, but it wasn’t in the cards. How low if compression is with running? Like at what point does the power head need rebuilt?

    Lowest compression you’d buy

I bought a motor this week for $50. I didn’t do a compression test like I normally would because I didn’t have my tester. Got it home, had a bunch of acorns/fur under the hood. I even found acorns and fur in the lower unit. Motor turned over and shifted freely. I did a compression test and I was...

Weird situation, looking for advice/how to repair

I’ll see what I can do to get it running. Legitimately one of the dumbest things I’ve done in recent memory unfortunately.

    Removing section of hull

I figured as much. We’ve just put a trolley motor on the back of the boat for a 2 acre pond. I don’t remove the splashwell if it’s integral to the hull.

    Removing section of hull

Here’s the boat. An older star craft. I can’t read the tag.

    Removing section of hull

I just bought this boat and trailer for a song. I’m going to do minimal work to it so that we can fish my partners pond with it. I’m wondering if removing this back section of metal would compromise the hull? I’d like to put a tiller handled motor back here.

Weird situation, looking for advice/how to repair

I’m going to try to find another 9.9/15 and get it up and going again. My carb is still good and was off at the time

Weird situation, looking for advice/how to repair

I made a complete moron move is the short version of the story. Long version is….I thought it would be a great idea to clean some of the areas under the cowling while I had parts off. I sprayed a bunch of brake cleaner to get some of the nasty gunk and grease from off the motor. I also had to...

Well I’ve officially made my 15 hp into a parts motor! 😥 not been a good 2 weeks for this motor. I’ve been a sad owner

Weird situation, looking for advice/how to repair

Any suggestions for how to bend this thing back out?

Weird situation, looking for advice/how to repair

The bending seems to be unsuccessful. I tried heat and some huge channel locks and a big wrench separately without success. I’ll just put the new lower cowling on. I’m gonna have to do some work with the broken starter anyways

Weird situation, looking for advice/how to repair

Ordered a lower cowling today. Going to try to bend the one back and Will replace if bend is unsuccessful. I’ll get to the starter tonight or tomorrow (hopefully) busy weekend with my little man.
