Throttle linkage cable barrel at motor will not go into hole without moving throttle.

You've already posted this once before. I think we all understand the problem. Several have asked if there is any way to adjust end of the cable that's in the control box. A couple asked if there are different locations to connect the throttle cable in the control box, like longer or shorter...

Need guidance on Prop pitch and Power, 78 Johnson 55hp 55EL78S

check the plugs and see if they look different. Is one getting flooded and the other look fine. The spark gap tester is a great test of ignition system. I had a 15' dual console Cobia and it ran about 30 MPH with a 55 HP evinrude on it. No idea what pitch the prop was, but pretty sure the...

    1980 skeeter sf150 - Johnson 140hp tilt/trim?

So, it does make noise when you try to tilt down? So the motor is working when you press the "down" button? But it does go down when you loosen the relief screw? That's odd. I usually think of the down movement as sort of "passive". The motor pumps oil into the cylinder to raise the piston...

    Johnson 1993 70hp head removal

I would have probably opted for taking the exhaust cover off first. It's easier to remove and you could have seen the side of the pistons through the exhaust port in the side of the cylinder. There are two bolts all the way down at the bottom that are pretty tough to get to. There should be...

    No Power to Boat

Ignition switch would not explain the lack of power to the tilt/trim. On Yamaha, I'm pretty sure the voltage for the tilt/trim comes straight from the starter solenoid, not from ignition switch.

1990 V4 runs on two cylinders at low RPMs

If it funs fine at full speed, but two cylinders aren't firing at idle, I would second exactly what jimmbo said. Flyingscott, he already posted his compression figures. This should help: https://www.boats.net/catalog/johnson/outboard/90hp/vj90mlesb-1990/carburetor

Yahana 200hp txrr stumbles at idle

I've checked the reed valves openings and other things before, but I've never actually had to replace any before.

1988 Johnson 90 hp V4 carb has no suction top carb

How is the motor running? What are the symptoms, or is it just an observation on your part and the motor is running fine? What do the top spark plugs look like compared to the bottom? Any sign of top looking like it's running lean/rich?

Can't get my lower unit gearcase off

So, several days ago, the first recommendation was to get some penetrating oil down in there where the drive shaft slides into the motor, and you haven't done that yet? You'd probably have it apart by now if you had done that. spray some "PB Blaster" or WD40 or some other penetrating oil (I...

1988 Force 125 HP outboard prop selection

The ideal operating range for that motor is 4500 - 5500 RPM's. To increase RPM's, you need to reduce the pitch. You haven't told us what prop you're actually using, so it's hard to tell you what you need to use. Pitch is the forward movement you should get out of one full revolution of the...

Mercury 115 2016 starter motor pictures

What was the problem with it? Brushes look almost new. I've seen them worn down till nothing was left of them. A rebuilt kit usually just consists of new brushes and new bushings. If the bushings wear out, the shaft can get off center and it won't perform well. Get sandpaper and clean up...

‘77 johnson javelin 85 remote control box

We would hate to see you spend money unnecessarily. My dad had a boat for over 20 years. He wore out 3 outboard motors on that boat, but he never replaced the standard old evinrude control box. those things just don't have a lot of "technology" in them and they are frequently replaced. We...

    Fuel line for pressure tank

Fantastic find! You've got a great starting point. I'd replace points, condensers, coils plugs and clean the carb and replace the impeller and it should be as good as new.

1988 Johnson 90 hp V4 carb has no suction top carb

Wouldn't any damaged/leaking seals also affect compression? If compression is good, then there should also be good suction to draw air in, right? Nevermind, compression is within the cylinder, suction would be within the crank case.

Mercruiser 5.0L two barrel Carb Leak?

That should be a fine spray coming out of the jet. I think you've got a clogged jet.

    Little bit of help needed

Does it have a poppet valve? How is it running? Lean condition? Idle jet clogged? On OMC I'd take off the exhaust cover and look for blockages there. Doesn't water get to heads through passages in exhaust cover?

    Co-Ownership Boat Agreement

Two friends of mine shared a boat. They're not friends anymore. One had to sell his house and move away. They lived next door to each other. Constant fighting on who got the boat each weekend, who did/didn't put gas in the boat. One didn't clean the boat to the others satisfaction, One...
