    air leaks are sort of unusual as it would effect idle quality. I'd go through the carbs and throttle bodies while your at it for the idle circuit. carbs would be my first guess. most ignition components on these either work or they don't but hit the primer first to confirm its fuel related.

    Indcator hose pressure location looks fine. On the overheat: Did you replace the rubber t stat grommets? they must be sealed. if they leak, it will overheat as it cannot create the pressure it needs to fill up to heads. verify both t stats are opening with some hot water gradually warmed up...

    i've built a few .030'' over and never needed to re-jet. Cant hurt to go up a size but for an extra $250 in jets its not really an issue. I do take 2 degrees of timing out for break-in (just 2 hours).

    Nothing wrong with a single traditional pump on these. puts out roughly 2.5psi at WOT. Your issue, you will probaby find out eventually, has to do with dirty carbs or an air leak somewhere in the manifold. hit the primer when its bogging down. if it hits in again, you know what to do.

    its my opinion that sellers think their gearcases are worth $400-$1200 on Ebay (for example OMC 2 and 3 cyl looper ones) completely un-inspected or serviced. Its crazy. I haven't paid over $250 for a complete non-running motor (mostly 2, 3 and V4 motors) in about 2 years. Gearcases themselves...

    sure but its a 40hp SkiTwin. Cowling and parts diagram shows this to be the case as well. I understand the block is different, but its still the old style with the 33hp version cowl/mid/gearcase. havent checked if the gears were beefed up for the larger block. Model 40153B.

    it wasn't as a 33, but as a 40!. I believe the last year of the SkiTwin, and the 40hp variant (660cc for the 33hp, and 720cc for the 40hp). Honestly I didn't know a 40hp SkiTwin existed... just the lark/bigtwin 40's. Quite surprised. My part #'s are correct. unfortunately for us, the 33hp float...

    I've noticed this slowdown as well. High fuel prices just make it worse, so everyone wants 4 strokes to boot. People asking ridiculous prices thinking the boating market is "hot" is another factor. sadly, most older 2 strokes will end up in the dump. which is where i will be waiting in the bushes :)
