Merc Sterndrive 3.0 Pressure test is holding steady at 7psi, should I be concerned?

I did a pressure test today on my 1980s Mercruiser Sterndrive 3.0 A1G1, the upper and lower together , it's holding steady at 7 psi for 2 hours. Should I be concerned? When I did just the lower, it was amazing. The upper could be hurting I suppose

Is it possible to put the upper half of the sterndrive on first? Or do I need to put the whole drive on together?

I just put the two halves together and I'm going to mount it that way as one. Now that it's aligned really good hopefully it won't be difficult. FWIW - It took me a lil while to get the halves together. Ughhhhh, this boat is really kicking my arse. Most likely tomorrow I'll mount the drive to...

Is it possible to put the upper half of the sterndrive on first? Or do I need to put the whole drive on together?

I just gave it a dry run, but I couldn't get it to go in all the way. Yes the engine is aligned nicely with the alignment tool. It goes all the way in the coupler and spins freely with 2 fingers. There's spline grease on the tool. So I know it's aligned. So I'm thinking maybe the whole...

Is it possible to put the upper half of the sterndrive on first? Or do I need to put the whole drive on together?

Further,,, In some youtube videos I have watched them adjust the prop slightly, so it locks into the coupler, that's why I'm asking.

Is it possible to put the upper half of the sterndrive on first? Or do I need to put the whole drive on together?

I went to mount the upper half of my sterndrive (Merc Alpha One Gen One). It's much easier for me to put the upper half on, first because it's lighter and way easier to maneuver. Is this possible to do it without assembling both halves? Your experiences and thoughts. Thanks

    1983 merCruiser 3.0 4 cylinder.

My guess: Sounds like you have a compression leak in the engine, not a vacuum leak. Suggestion: Go on YouTube and search videos for your same issue/sound/noise, see what you can come up with. Read all the comments if you find one similiar to yours. That's how I fixed my boat. I had a knocking...

I'd try raising the idle screw on the carburetor.

I may need to shim the upper sterndrive questions.

@dave8311 I'm going to use my original lower drive that i just rebuilt with the newer top drive that i just purchased, it seems they are both identical lower units. Is this a bad move, if i dont know what the lower gears are? Does it matter? They are exactly the same lower units, and both came...

I may need to shim the upper sterndrive questions.

@dave8311 , judging by this chart It seems the common upper gear set is 1.94 gear ratio for the 1980s Engines 3.0 liter and 140 hp. I think I'm safe https://www.sterndrivereplacement.com/product/sterndrive-mercruiser/alpha-one-gen-1/complete-sei-106/gear-chart/

I may need to shim the upper sterndrive questions.

Very good question as I'm not 100% sure, this drive I just bought from the seller said it came off of an older 3.0 Merc, It's also an Alpha One Gen One. My engine is a 3.0L 140hp. Alpha One Gen One also. Hopefully it will work. Keeping my fingers crossed.

    Unable to remove exhaust elbow/raiser?

I freed mine up with a rubber mallet, it will come off eventually. I have the same riser setup on my engine as you. While your in there check your water flapper.

I may need to shim the upper sterndrive questions.

A few days ago I located a seller in Northern NJ on Facebook Marketplace that had an upper Merc Alpha One Gen One sterndrive for $200. It turns out the drive was only used in a freshwater lake in Lake Wallenpaupack PA, as he remembered the boat he yanked it from. When I got there to his home in...

I may need to shim the upper sterndrive questions.

When I recently removed the upper vertical shaft and the main drive shaft on Merc Alpha One Gen One to do the upper and lower seals, there were shims on both. I tried installing them back as best as possible, but noticed one shim was damaged, and I noticed that one of the the upper vertical...
