    That means you have a 20' run. I didn't realize a trolling motor draws as much current as Scott says, I'd go by what he said and use a larger cable.

    I'll start with one question. You said "The circuit breakers (on the dash) are good, verified by checking the continuity". Did you verify there was 12v at the breakers?

    How much current does the motor draw? I'm guessing you're talking about a very short cable run on a kayak. You should be good with 10g wire.

    Gas leaking from tank inlet

    It's happened to me many times. I topped off the tank too much and when the weather got hot the gas expanded and the vent burped gas. Not I stop filling the tank as soon as the nozzle clicks, problem gone.

    Where do I find a Johnson SeaHorse 4.5 manual, and what oil do I need to run it with?

    You need 50 parts gas to 1 part 2 stroke oil. You can buy the oil at walmart to west marine. Look up TC-W3 oil. You'll need to check/clean/replace any gas filters, water pump, lower gear case oil, plugs and old gas. That's just a start.

    How did the oil look? Was it oil color and hopefully not milk chocolate color. If it looked normal you are probably good to go.

    Yup, what he said. If you haven't changed the lower gearcase oil lately do it to make sure there's no leak.

    Measure the battery voltage at the starter while cranking it over.

    Agree with KJM. That's more than a drip check the filter bowl is screwed on correctly and any hose clamps are tight.

    Good job, that's what I did, other than the electrical tape. Tape won't do much good other than trap water inside. I use liquid tape over the heat shrink.
