Freak fluke all 8 spark plugs burn out at same time !!!?

This sounds more like a no spark situation rather than a spark plug issue It would be incredibly rare for every spark plug to fail simultaneously What type of ignition system is currently in place?

Gear lube poured out of gimbal bellows (Alpha 1 Gen 2)

When pressure testing a drive you must first drain the oil and once pressure is applied simulate operation by rotating the input splined/u joint shaft clockwise (looking at the drive from fwd) and manually shift the drive f/n/r 10 psi is fine for a preliminary test but 15 psi for 10 minutes is...

    Shift control replacement

All new mercury brand mechanical shift sterndrive remotes have a trailer button. DTS uses relays on the engine and a single gimbal ring mounted switch to control tilt/trim and guage output/signal as the ecm and smart craft system use digital signals opposed to analog Aside from explaining step...

    Shift control replacement

3 options I see: 1. Return the controller and order the sterndrive one 2. Bypass the harness connection at the controller with butt connectors, bypass the limit switch connection at the trim pump and use the current controller with no limit or trailer function 3. Wire in a divorced trailer switch

Pressure test Alpha 1 Gen 2 - do I need to block something

The connection for the gear lube monitor system is a ball valve on the driveshaft housing that mates with a protruding valve on the bell housing. No need to block anything off when pressure testing save for one of the vent/drain holes with the oem plug and gasket The drive should be drained of...

    Prop seals Bravo 3

Bravo 3 seal carrier is threaded in (LH thread). The special tool used inserts into the exhaust ports on the carrier and a 1/2" drive breaker bar attaches to the tool. Not like an alpha that pulls straight out and is held in place with a separate retainer As dodge stated the two special tools...

2002 MerCruiser mx 6.2 mpi wont idle

There is too little information about symptoms to glean anything but speculation at this point Like dodge mentioned early on you will need to connect a proper diagnostic tool and have the appropriate service manual to correctly troubleshoot your issue It's in your best interest to look at data...

    Prop seals Bravo 3

Yes, most likely failed propshaft seal(s). You'll want to replace both of them No need to split the drive for this job, in fact leaving the drive still mounted to the bell housing works well as there is much torque/force required for removal/installation of both propshafts You will also need...

    Shift cut out switch problem

IIRC the shift interrupt switch for an efi engine is normally closed. Opposite of what a carbureted engine uses

    Engine replacement help…

These posts reference engines OP does not own OP owns a 4.3L V6 OP does not own an engine currently available for install Context aside, information posted throughout this thread has been tracking towards possible repairs. Speculation is fun, even rewarding when the option comes to fruition...

    Engine replacement help…

Cheers B answered both questions OP posted This thread reads like a "choose your own adventure" book. A lot of wondering and speculation

    Engine replacement help…

Where was that? Every picture posted by OP is of a 4.3L V6 AFAIK and have been told the 4.3L is the ONLY engine OP has in hand

    Engine replacement help…

In that case you should not reinstall a V6 engine

Alpha 1 Gen 2 - gear lube in idle relief ports

Can't tell what type of fluid I'm seeing in your pic. But if you're sure its gear lube then it's gear lube Pull the drive and perform a visual inspection and pressure test the drive WAG if it's not a seal would be a failed bell housIng/drive gasket. It provides the seal for the gear lube...

1997 7.4 mercruiser mpi blue water inboard

From that vintage mercury used zf hurth straight and v drive transmissions with gear reduction. Pump orientation determines output rotation as 454 from that era was LH rotation only

1997 7.4 mercruiser mpi blue water inboard

Probably best to look into a local engine rebuilder. Pretty tough to buy a reman 454 these days, they are rare Curious as to what caused the low compression, with routine care and maintenance 454 ought to last thousands of hours with great performance

    Installing new bellows

Volvo made it easy for the shift cable. Just loosen the clamp tab (3/8" wrench) and bobs yer uncle

    Installing new bellows

Nice write up, Lou Would add that you should ensure the threads for the hinge pins/bolts and pivot housing are clean upon reassembly. Use blue loctite on the threads and torque to 100 lb/ft max (same as alpha style)

    Mercarb 2BBL vacuum hose?

Definitely not a fuel pump diaphragm rupture hose connection. It is a vacuum port most likely tied into a pcv valve in one of the rocker arm covers For years and years mercruiser just vented the covers on gm based engines to the flame arrestor but in the late 90's/early 2000's decided to add a...
