I've had no issues using this set up on my cuddy ceiling. Adherence was great.
The usual spray adhesives bonded well. 3m, gorilla etc..

Well thanks. That all makes sense. I was thinking instead of ply or formica backing to use this instead. Its a corrugated plastic sheet. I can add the foam to the cut template then adhere the vinyl skin.
Thoughts?
I found this and I think I'll use it and add the foam myself.
Perforated (Dotted)...
Larry/guys,
In regard to cabin head liner is their a pro/con to a foam backed product?
I see some factory foam backed at high pricing vs. no foam. I know I can add my own foam to backing but what is the benefit?
Looking good. So yep, sand, wipe, scratch up, acetone.
Sometimes I'll cut up a rubber/plastic spreader/scraper apply pb and run it smooth with the tool while applying. Eliminates a lot of bumps and points.
Ebay has a load of them;

Nah...a lot of guys miss the language thingy here. So the cuts into the ply on edge are exposed and also voids show up.
At this point those areas are like sponges to water/moisture and typically will be one of the first areas to rot after all that hard work.
You will want to fill the voids...
Hmmmmmmm....Ted is the man for vacuum bagging. Me and most stick to the old sticky fashion way. Ted did a "MOST AWESOME" vacuum project on one of his threads. I'll never find it though.
See if @mickyryan can dig up his posts for you. I can't keep up with him and the number of boats he's floated.
Couple of ways to skin that cat.
1. Use a lower 0z. cloth to make the bends.
2. Go with the 17 oz and tap on the bends with an object to soften the glass to laydown.
3. Slightest of bevels to on edge to have the glass make the turns.
Def. clean up all those edges in any event. Wet the crap out...
Dang.......just came across this little project. Think I'm putting it under the Christmas tree. I can't work on it says the Queen until the Sportsy gets wet.
Geez...might to make these tonight:
