Powerhead paintjob at the factory in the -80s, Johnson?

that thing looks mint! i can't imagine the carbs have never been through in 38 years though. but remember: back then they had alot more factory trained techs that did jobs better than today on average (good 2 stroke mechanics are harder to find), so it's unlikely you'd be able to tell if they...

    '95 Johnson 175 Replacements

unfortuneatly the days of a 365 pound 2.6 liter v6 powerhouse are over. no matter how big and fancy the new motors are, they can never quite match the mid-range snap of a big 2 stroke!

    Seafoam. good bad or ugly?

engine tuner (OMC/BRP) is miles better than seafoam in my opinion. it also has the benefit of being designed for 2 stroke outboards from the start. absolutely incredible at taking off grease, and caked on carbon deposits. i use it to clean pistons off if they are going to be re-used. they come...

    mercury vs Force

absolutely not the same. the driveshaft is different, and unfortunately cost a fortune even used.

etec 40-60hp powerhead swap onto older midsection?

does anyone know if its possible to fit an etec 40-60hp twin on an older midsection? i've got a couple options for "older midsections" 1980's and the newer 89' and up ones. i ask because the adapter looks the same, and of course the adapter gasket. i was thinking this would be a great way to use...

    1993 omc not firing

you need the manual and a dva adapter. $25 each or less on ebay. clip the postive lead of the meter to one of the primary terminals. crank the motor. should be around 200v cranking. 250v for the charge coil leads (brown and brown/yellow)

    1993 omc not firing

you can disconnect the kill wire black/yellow to see if spark returns, but thats probably not you issue. get a service manual and follow the troubleshooting section for ignition. first thing is to determine if the pack and charge coil are putting out 150v+ when cranking

1984 johnson 90hp carb leaking fuel out air cleaner

there are a bunch if idle air bleeds on these carbs. and 2 idle main jets in the bowl. i'd need to have one infront of me, but the 2 tiny brass ones port and starboard are air for the idle circuit under the top horseshoe shaped cover, and 2 more inside the carb for fuel to exit

    60 & 70 hp gearcase 88 and 89 differences beside driveshaft?

Racer i've got a bunch of 3 cyl loopers. the 89' that accepted my older 49ci block was a 4 spline i'm positive, but is it possible my 89' was an early production run that still used the 4 spline from previous years (86-88 56ci)? must be! ill be taking apart yet another 89' 56ci motor and will...

1984 johnson 90hp carb leaking fuel out air cleaner

by "gash" in carb do you mean that little hole that's part of the idle circuit and has another one on the other side, or is there a crack somewhere?

    60 & 70 hp gearcase 88 and 89 differences beside driveshaft?

i literally just got done putting a rebuilt 1985 70hp on a 1979 75hp midsection and lower. they bolted up perfectly. i also think the 89' was a 4 spline as i've put a 49 cube powerhead on a 1989 midsection with the only change required was the adapter, and went to a fine spline around 92' or 93'...

1984 johnson 90hp carb leaking fuel out air cleaner

gas will leak out of the bottom of the emulsion tube on these very often. i put some gasiola sealer around them to stop this. another thing with floats sticking: when you use the metal float pins, they can stick to the float becuase of minute rust, which is why i use the plastic ones in the kits...

    85 hp Johnson v4 no spark on 2 cyl's

just check for voltage at the kill wires (not sure if the 77' model has 2 or 1). shouldn't be any voltage with the key in the on position save for some ghost microvoltage.

    V4 Crossflow carb question

Does anyone know if I can substitute a metal-housing float bowl for the plastic ones? I have a 110hp from 1986 that uses a plastic one on top, and metal on the bottom. The plastic one on top looks deeper, yet houses the same exact orifice plugs as the metal one. The reason I ask is the bottom...

    Johnson 150 Rebuild/Remanufacture Guidance

Good question! After I wrote that, I checked ebay and there seems to be alot of them available. Which is great news. I didn't realize they were around. Jason just seemed to think they were hard to find I guess.
