    2009 Sea Ray 185 4.3 TKS - a few questions.

that is the proper way to connect wires in a marine environment, best option is solder and heat shrink but heat shrink butt connectors are nmma/coast guard compliant not scotch locks, not regular butt connectors, and definitely not wire nuts i'm not keen on automotive ignition systems but MSD...

The overall rundown on Velvet Drives?

this i've found velvet drive to be the best overall straight inboard transmission. be sure to check/change the fluid regularly it will aid in shifting and noise reduction. dexron 3 atf is recommended fyi when you say "V - drive" it makes me think of a completely different transmission/drive system

    Delco EST High Idle

fyi MSD does make a marine ignition system that utilizes the same theory of operation as the thunderbolt ignition system. it is offered as a direct replacement for the thunderbolt system however ime it does not have the same durability as the thunderbolt as AD stated previously the delco system...

2013 monterey 204 fsx prop not operating

this would be the easiest and cheapest scenario, the rubber hub in the prop could very well have spun thus not allowing the propshaft to properly rotate the prop. a lot of mercury brand propellers now use a plastic removable hub as a sacrificial and easily replaceable part. other causes of prop...

    5.7 Gxi-f outdrive issue

on all volvo SX-M (including most if not all other volvo) sterndrive units the shifting takes place in the upper half of the drive. the drive unit itself is comprised of two halves, the upper and lower. nowhere in your posts have you mentioned that you have removed the lower half of the drive...

    5.7 Mercruiser(thunderbolt iv)/Alfa 1 out drive intermittent issue

unless the lower shift cable is worn, binding or misadjusted a faulty lower shift cable can and probably will shift properly with no load, i.e. boat on trailer running on muffs. put the boat in the water with a load, cable binds, etc, and engages shift interrupt prematurely/improperly

    2003 mercruiser 4.3 issues

grey wire is for the tach issue sounds typical of a failing/failed ignition sensor in the distributor, there is a good troubleshooting guide for the thunderbolt system which can easily detect most failed component(s)

Mercruiser 3.0 blowed a spark plug

that troubleshooting guide is for a thunderbolt ignition. as far as i know mercury never used the thunderbolt on a 3.0 L. your ignition system is most likely the delco EST system, completely different from the thunderbolt

    Fluid in the bilge

this the cooler is on the low pressure side of the p/s system. the lines are held in place by hose clamps at the barb fittings on the cooler. it's not a rare occurrence for the lines to become brittle and split at the ends. repair in this situation requires removal of the leaking hose(s)...

3.0, engine oil, breather tube questions

everything looks/sounds normal the "smoke" you're seeing is most likely condensation being purged from the engine oiling system/crankcase. very common on 3.0 L engines. unless you are having severe power loss/other major symptoms there is no need to worry, it's just the nature of an engine...

1992 Mercruiser 3.0 problems running under load

water separator would be located in line between the fuel tank and fuel pump (if equipped, most 3.0 L merc engines did not come with an oem separator). the fuel pump filter is in the pump itself, need to remove the bowl to replace it. i was referring to fuel system vacuum, not engine vacuum...

    Changed Bellows still have water

not really, unless you completely clean out the bellows, reinstall the drive using a new install kit/gasket and take it out on the water, then remove the drive and see if water is present if the u-joint bellows is sealed properly the only way for water to enter is through the weep hole in the...
