    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

No need for Grade 8. Standard SS will be fine. As for the AL transom piece I don't see any issues with keeping it. Tools sound about right. Wire wheel there are different arguments for buying SS or brass to limit damage. In the end, you just got to decide if its worth it or if a $3 wheel...

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

Depending on the size of the hole, you can get away patching them with a bolt, washer, and nut with 5200. If they are to big, then getting them welded would be the ideal choice. He used Coat-it on the exterior? Not sure how effective that really is. Just needs to be used along the seams and...

Now that is a motor stand! I wish I had something like that sitting around. As for the Transom, when you remove that top transom cover, be careful. As others have told me, certain Starcraft parts are rarer then a live Dinosaur. SHSU

I love the Nautolex. I see you did the top of your gunwales too. Mine have held up to the abuse of fishing and stepping on and off. I have to guess this is much better then the others I have seen that have painted the top. SHSU.

Ahhhh, the planning stage. That was a lot of fun. Mind ran wild and how much I was willing to spend seemed to keep climbing... lol The cleats I got were from Gemlux. Spendy, but I have loved them. Thing to remember is anything that will be experiencing external torqueing, should have...

    1974 starcraft islander overhaul

Interesting, so since the motor isn't pushing on the transom or supporting the weight no need for the knee brace. Learned something knew (y) SHSU

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

There is getting it done and doing it right. I will admit I had no idea how big of a project I was getting into when we bought the boat. We bought it in January and I thought we would be done by March, July at the latest. We did splash in July.... just two years later. LOL As for your...

    22' Islander rebuild

What???? You aren't supposed to do that???? LOL, things we find when redoing a boat from a PO that only wanted a quick fix and didn't care. Glad you are doing it right. SHSU

The picture showing your exterior knee brace rivets needs to be redone. The knee brace is a key component and will take a lot of force. You can see the extra exterior bracing I installed to help beef up the area. Plus I redid the drain plug location as it did no good being so high up. Still...

    22' Islander rebuild

I ran wire all over, but did it for peace of mind that one thing wouldn't kill the whole system. Otherwise, I get what you are saying and agree a lot of bad methods. SHSU

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

The aluminum sheeting on the interior isn't original, or at least not that I am aware of. I would definitely open it up and take a look. Also, for as cheap as you can rebuild these transoms it may be worth the piece of mind just to do it since you have it torn apart already. The piece of wood...

Moving right along! Nothing like a "First Mate" to give you proper motivation. You have a chance to measure that front area for a Fuel tank? SHSU

Yep, second that thought. Never thought it was very stout, hence my desire for a custom build. @Moserkr If you plan on people getting in and out at the transom for tubing and such, you might want to think about how to stiffen up that area. Additional aluminum angle should help with that. SHSU

Love the pic of your First Mate. My Admiral/Little Admiral were constant supports too. For the SW, yes it should be an easy fix. Rivet some aluminum angle iron underneath along where the SW meets the Gunwales. Run it on that vertical edge and along the horizontal edge and it will help firm...
